STEP NUMBER THREE

We have arrived at the point where the two most common and yet notorious parts of speech have been revealed: The Verb and The Noun . . .

Its like grammatical time travel.

The verb, as I know you remember, is any word that can be conjugated. Conjugated, according to the definition we use, means: to place into different time periods

Unable to explain this picture.

The noun is any word that can pass the following tests:
Sorry, not that type of test . . . But this type: A noun can take the words a, an, or the in front of it; or it is able to indicate more than one.

STEP NUMBER THREE

WHAT IS SYNTAX?

Syntax is the order we put words together in order to communicate meaning.

In English, normal syntax is . . . Subject first Then verb Then object. It is the difference between Tom kissed Mary, as opposed to, Mary kissed Tom. Hey, wait there isnt any difference between the two.

Isnt there
Maybe not in that example, but in a court of law it might be a very big deal to the judge when considering the difference between . . . Tom hit Mary or Mary hit Tom.
as well as important to either Tom or Mary when facing sentencing

Subject - Verb - Object

Thats the order in English. Its not the same in other languages. Some have the verb first followed by the subject. Others have the object first followed by the subject then the verb.

The other permutations according to importance:

Subject Object Verb (for example Japanese and Latin) Subject Verb Object (for example English, German, Kiswahili, Chinese) Verb Subject Object (for example Welsh, Hawaiian and Arabic) Verb Object Subject (for example Fijian) Object Verb Subject (for example in the artificial language Klingon.)

ya SoH - You are a tactical officer

Object - Subject - Verb

Syntax has been used to create the speech of one of Hollywoods most beloved creations. His speech places the object first.
True that is!

But for now

Let us remember this order and these two parts of speech: Verb and Noun. In step number three normal English syntax is Subject (the noun) and verb next.
