Part 1.

Skill Performance Analysis Soccer Pass !! List ALL steps to perform the skill (for the teachers use in understanding performance of the skill). Color-code the steps that logically link together in performing the skill. 1. Step with non-dominate foot to the side of the ball with toe pointing towards target 2. Arms away from side and parallel to ground for balance 3. Bend kicking foot at the knee 4. Bring kicking leg forward and extend at the knee 5. Strike the ball with the inside portion of kicking foot 6. Continue to follow-through the kick towards the target 7. Shift weight onto kicking foot

Part 2.

Combine steps from Part 1 to create the 3-4 MOST CRITICAL steps and add related cue words (these are the steps for students to learn during demo/instruction/practice). 1. Step with non-dominate foot to the side of the ball with toe pointing towards target; arms out for balance; bend kicking foot at the knee. SKILL Cue = Load 2. Bring kicking foot forward and extend at the knee; strike the ball with the inside portion of the kicking foot. SKILL Cue = Strike 3. Continue to follow-through towards the target; shift weight onto kicking foot. SKILL Cue= Finish

Lesson #: 2 of 3

Time required: 45 minutes

Grade: 8th

Psychomotor Objectives for this lesson:

PM1: Do Level- (NASPE Standard #1) A) During the through pass drill, TSW demonstrate how to properly execute a through pass by completing a pass while keeping their partner running in stride. PM2: Use Level- (NASPE Standard #1) A) During game play, TSW demonstrate how to properly execute a through pass by completing a pass while keeping their partner running in stride.

Cognitive Objectives for this lesson:

C1: (NASPE Standard #2) When the situation presents itself during game play, TSW demonstrate understanding of when a through pass is appropriate by calling for the ball.

Affective Objectives for this lesson:

A1: (NASPE Standard #5) TSWD peer encouragement to their classmates by: Telling others nice pass Using positive feedback for their classmates Clapping or encouraging others when they are trying hard or working to better themselves

Pre-requisite skills or knowledge needed for success in this lesson:

Knowledge of basic soccer skills o Striking o Passing o Receiving a pass

Adaptations and/or extensions for this lesson:

Students with limitations Can pass the ball without running (from a stationary position). Can strike the ball without an on the ball defender. Students that need a greater challenge Add an on the ball defender that will need to be beaten to receive the pass. Add another on the ball defender in between the goal and the striker.!

Management issues for this lesson:

Use the following cues: When I say go (Go!) / Freeze / Toe-to-toe Utilize two whistle blasts to signal to transition to the next station. Inform students that they will be rotating in a clockwise rotation.

Safety issues for this lesson: Students will need to strike the ball with control to prevent any passes from rising above

Equipment and/or supplies needed for this lesson:

the head during drills. Students should be aware of where other students are when attempting to head the ball in order to prevent head-to-head collisions. Students will need to be aware of 3-whistle rule, that indicates to stop all activities. 2-3 training ladders (depending on availability) 15 short yellow cones 8 medium sized cones 6 tall red cones 4 Sticks that are able to be placed on top of the medium sized cones 12 soccer balls 6 hoola-hoops 1 Boom-Box with appropriate music

Facility set-up needed for this lesson:

Warm-up stations should be spread out in the gym so that students can move from one station directly to the next. Passing refresher should be done with students aligned along the length of gym and their partners should be aligned across from them on the other side of the gym. Through pass drill will be performed with 3 stations spread evenly throughout the length of the gym. Each station will have 3 cones placed 3 feet apart from one another in a straight line. The cones should be in the center of the gym, and parallel to a goal that will be placed at the end of one side of the gym. The goal should be 10 feet wide. One cone will be at the opposite end of the gym for each station and indicate the starting point for each passing station. Remind students to have fun and try their best at all times. We are all learning here, so keep encouraging each other, because everyone learns at different paces. !

Notes to self:

Timeline: 30-40 sec.

Instruction: Script for instruction and management Welcome and overview:

-Set a positive tone for class, by informing your students that we will hopefully be having a lot of fun today, but working hard today to improve our passing skills. Inform students that we will be participating in game play today too, so they will have an opportunity to utilize all the skills we have been working on. Lastly, ask how their weekend went and if anyone got a chance to participate in any physical activities.

45 sec.

Transition plan:
-Go toe-to-toe with 3 other individuals Each person will number off from 1-4. Warm-up stations will be numbered from 1-4 When I say go, each student will go to their assigned station and wait for the music to start to begin GO

5 min.

Warm-up activity: Soccer Footwork Warm-up

-Students will be working on their footwork, while also raising heart rates and increasing blood flow. -Each station should be evenly spread out along the length of the gym. -Station 1 will consist of 2 rope ladders that will require students to step one foot into the ladder, until both feet are in, and then move them quickly out to the side, one foot at a time. The students should alternate which side they enter and exit in between each time. Once they reach the end, they should run to the back of the line and repeat this activity until the whistle blows to transition to the next activity. -Station 2 will consist of 8 medium sized cones with a stick balanced between two cones, every 2 feet apart. Students will jump off two feet and attempt to clear each stick as they progress down the line. If they knock of the stick, they should quickly replace it and move to the back of the line. Once they reach the end, they should run to the back of the line and repeat this activity until the whistle blows to transition to the next activity. -Station 3 will consist of 8 small cones aligned in a straight line. Each student will be working on a ball fake by crossing their foot around the cone and stepping to the side. With each step they should cross around the next cone and advance down the row until they reach the end. Once they reach the end, they should run to the back of the line and repeat this activity until the whistle blows to transition to the next activity. -Station 4 will consist of 3 hoola hoops placed consecutively in a row and then three more consecutively place after them, but just to the right. The first three hoola hoops will be used to jump into with just the left foot. The next three will be used to jump into with jut the right foot. Student will progress down the line and work on quickly moving their feet to each hoola hoop. Once they reach the end, they should run to the back of the line and repeat this activity until the whistle blows to transition to the next activity. -Each transition between stations will be indicated by two whistle blasts. Music should also be playing during this warm-up activity.

40 sec.

Transition plan:
-Freeze the students will be instructed to grab all the equipment and place it all

on the baseline of the gym and then meet back in the middle of the gym.

Lesson Focus: Through Ball Pass 2 min. Anticipatory set:

-Inform students that today we are going to be learning how to execute a through pass. This pass is used to create an attack and advance a striker past a defensive wall. It requires good communication between teammates and also an understanding of what each other is trying to accomplish. If done properly, it can give the striker a one on one with the goalie in many cases.

4 min.

Instruction/demonstration and/or Explanation of the skill:

-Inform students that they will be working at one of three stations. Each station will have one cone to indicate where the passer will stand and also where the drill will start. In the middle will be three cones that represent a defensive wall, this is where the striker will stand. The final two cones at the end of the other side of station will indicate the goal and this will be where the goalie will stand. -The drill will start with the passer bringing the ball out, or away from the cone. This will signal to the striker that he will need to juke out the defender (cone in this case). He will fake in one direction and then move to the other side and at that point he will point to the ground in front of him (pointing indicated to the passer that you want a through ball). The passer will then pass the ball in between two of the cones and in front of the striker so that they have to run up to the ball. This will allow the striker to keep his momentum moving forward and in a real game scenario, keep the defender away from the ball. The striker will then attempt to score on the goal. -When the striker has attempted his shot he will then stay as the goalie for the next rotation. The goalie will then move to the passer position and old passer will move to the striker position. The activity will continue as long as time permits. -Adaptations: If students are having success, you may also add a on the ball defender in place of the cones. Do not be afraid to pair students together that are of higher skill and ready for this adaptation. If students are struggling, try spreading the cones further apart, or allow the students to pass the ball from a stationary position. You may also remove the goalie entirely, so they can have success scoring and in turn build confidence.

10 Sec.

Transition plan:
-Everyone go toe-to-toe with two other individuals and number off from 1-3 Stations will be numbered from 1-3. When I say go, go to your assigned station. Go

10-12 min 20 Sec. 15 min.

Through Ball Pass Activity:

Students will now participate in the activity for as long as time permits. Allow for 15 minutes of soccer game play after this activity.

Transition plan:
-Freeze, everyone please grab all the equipment and place it at one end of the gym, then meet me in the middle of the gym. Go

Game Play:
-Students will now be participating with their pre-assigned teams in the first game of their tournament. Students will be asked to try and incorporate the through pass into the game and positive reinforcement should be used anytime they do so.

10 Sec.

Transition plan:

-Freeze, everyone jog to the middle circle.

2 Min.

Lesson closure:
-Awesome job today, I saw a lot of hard work out there and I truly appreciate it. -Teacher will review the through pass and check for understanding. The instructor should ask when you would incorporate the through pass, and why you would do so. Also the students should be asked what is important to remember when executing a through pass.

20 Sec.

Transition plan:
-Great Job Class! I ask that someone please grab all the equipment and place it at the baseline for the next class, thanks. You all can go shower up before your next classes.

5 Sec.

Dismissal:
See you all next time!
