KEEE3254 Hands-on Activity 1: Per unit concept (Semester 1, 2013/14) Questions: Figure 1 shows a single-phase power system network

consisting of a generator, G and a synchronous motor, M connected by a transmission line, two transformers T1 and T2 and a load connected to the system.

Figure 1 Ratings: G: 100 MVA, 13.8 kV, R = 0.5 p.u., X = 1 p.u. T1: 50 MVA, 14.4 kV /120 kV Y, R = 0.05 p.u., X = 0.05 p.u. T2: 100 MVA, 110 kV Y/14 kV , R = 0.05 p.u., X = 0.1 p.u. Load: 50 MVA, 13.8 kV, R = 0.5 p.u., X = 1 p.u. power factor = 0.85 Line: R = 50 , X = 100 Using PowerWorld software, construct Figure 1 using the ratings given. Use base power, SB as 100 MVA. Then, simulate the circuit to find the current in the circuit. After that, calculate the current in the circuit (in p.u.) using pen, papers and calculator. Use base power, SB as 100 MVA. Compare your simulation results and hand-written solutions.
