Free Asthma Education Class Offered at Central Utah Clinic PROVO, UT (November 4, 2013) -- Asthma education is an important step in living with asthma related symptoms. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), asthma accounts for more than 10 million children absences a year, making asthma the number one reason students miss school. To help Utah residents who suffer from the effects of asthma, Henry Yeates, MD, Allergist with Central Utah Clinic Allergy and Immunology, will host an asthma education class, November 20th from 5:30 p.m. 6:30 p.m. in the Internal Medicine Break Room, Provo Main Campus, 1055 N 500 W, Suite 212, Provo, UT. This event will help patients and staff learn the best methods for treating asthma and other allergy related illnesses. The purpose of this class is to help individuals and their families fully understand their asthma and provide insights to help them cope with their illness, Dr. Yeates said. "Asthma can't be entirely cured, but its effects can be minimized." Asthma can be a severe illness, hindering simple, everyday life. Learning to live with asthma can be difficult, but not impossible. The class will cover several important asthma topics, including:

Relaxation techniques Methods for coping with triggers How to adjust lifestyles to deal with asthma Immediate steps to take during an asthma attack

A free pulmonary function test to assess lung function will be given to interested class participants. Dr. Yeates is a board certified Allergist and Immunologist who has been treating patients with asthma for over 30 years. He was involved in founding Camp Wyatt, a camp for children with asthma, and has worked with the American Lung Association of Utah and the Utah County Clean Air Coalition.
