Wilson1 Lexi Wilson Professor H English 114A 13 November 2013 Word Count: 1096 Progression 3, Exercise 2: Obama Care

SCENE: A major topic of debate that has been prevalent in our country is Obama Care. The author Jonah Goldberg wrote the article, Obamas Big Lie. He is against the Obama Care Act. The other author is Michael Hiltzik who wrote, The truth is, Americans love Obama care. Hiltzik is for Obama care and state that Americans are for it too. The two authors to these articles decide to meet up with each other to have a small debate about Obama Care and their different sides and opinions on the topic. They decide to meet in a place of debate where education is being promoted. They meet at California State University Northridge to discuss their topics. They meet in front of the Oviatt Library and walk together up to the third floor where they have reserved a room to discuss politics. They are talking casually and lighthearted.

Goldberg: Hey Michael, it is nice to finally meet you. I have read your short article and I cant wait to discuss. Hiltzik: Yeah man, for sure I have been looking forward to meeting you. I really enjoy your articles they are very opinionated.

Wilson2 Goldberg: Thanks, I find journalism to be more entertaining when you add your own perspectives and views about a subject because youre going to have people that disagree and agree. Hiltzik: Yeah, that makes things interesting. But I like to add facts and statistics to my writing. Goldberg: Definitely, it makes it factual and accurate most of the time.

SCENE: They arrive at the room and put down their things.

Hiltzik: Okay down to business, lets talk Obama care. Goldberg: Lets do it. Do you want to start first? Hiltzik: No, you can start first. Goldberg: Okay, so in my article I talk about how Obama is pretty much a liar. I believe that this Obama shit is the biggest lie a President has said about domestic policy. Hiltzik: Um excuse me? Honestly, the biggest lie? Goldberg: Yes! Okay, so we have had previous presidents lie to us Americans but not like this. They all lied on moral accounts that had to do with misconducts or war. Hiltzik: Give me an example then. Goldberg: Well Bill Clinton said, I did not have sexual relations or how FDR said, Your boys are not going to be sent into any foreign wars then said how it was not a foreign war. It was a game, but even after all these unfortunate things we were lied about nothing has beat Obama care in my opinion.

Wilson3 Hiltzik: Fuck that, I still dont even know what Obama lied about. How about you enlighten me. Goldberg: Whoa, no need to get feisty. Obama said that we would be fully capable to keep our doctors if we enjoyed them, to keep our healthcare plan if we wanted to. Lies. Not true. Hiltzik: Um no how do you know that? Where are you statistics on that because I dont believe that shit. Goldberg: Hold up, listen to this. 16 million Americans on a certain health insurance have LOST their insurance policies. In the past month, thousands have been told that their insurance is going to be canceled. Americans have LOST coverage not gained it! When the fucking mandate kicks in tens of millions more will most likely lose their plans. Goldberg: Its like the insurance companies are going like OPPS we dont meet the requirements for Obama care but heres a better deal. But the deal is scam! My insurance might be just fine but then I will get charged for a new more expensive insurance. It is honestly such bullshit. Its just like how they are charging older people for maternity care! Old people are not able to produce children! Can they even still have sex?! Shit. People who can afford this are paying for the poor and sick signing up for Obama Care to expand the Medicaid! Hiltzik: Calm down man. Need to take some Adderall? You are such a Republican with your conservative views, like fucking expand your mind and be more liberal. Dont you want everyone to actually have Medicare? Shouldnt everyone to have equal opportunities?

Wilson4 Goldberg: Well youre too liberal you democratic shit. All youre about is the people; even the people who dont do shit for our country! Like I shouldnt put my own money from my job that I have worked hard in for bums that dont do shit and live off of others. Hiltzik: Let me just prove my point, how about that Goldberg. You may think you despise Obama Care, but you might actually love it. Matter of fact the American public loves Obama care, 88 % are in favor according to a survey. Goldberg: Bullshit. Hiltzik: No, it is true. In the Kaiser Family Foundation tracking poll, the difference was 43 & unfavorable to 39 % favorable. And 57 % dont know enough information about it; they have no clue on how it might affect them. We need to tell people and inform them what is going on so they can make a valid opinion! Goldberg: People being informed will only make them disagree more. Hiltzik: But youre so wrong. Let me tell you some more statistics from my poll. Tax credits for small businesses to buy insurance: 88% in favor. Closing the Medicare drug benefit doughnut hole: 81% in favor. Extension of dependent coverage to offspring up to age 26: 76% in favor. Expanding Medicaid: 71% in favor. Ban on exclusions for preexisting conditions: 66% in favor. Employer mandate: 57% in favor. Goldberg: Uhhh Hiltzik: See you agree with what I just told you. You probably just dont like the mandate. Goldberg: Yeah! Screw the mandate! Hiltzik: Well without it every health insurance would go bankrupt because no one would

Wilson5 apply until they are sick. This hatred for this law is just absurd; we need to be proud of it. Goldberg: It still has its flaws, and everyone hates it anyways sooo I said my argument based off of my article and I honestly dont think your article does shit. Hiltzik: I just gave you so many statistics, real proof! You gave me your opinion and a few little numbers. Goldberg: You know we could argue about this all day. I thought this was going to be a better discussion but apparently I was so wrong. Youre an annoyance and I am leaving. SCENE: Goldberg grabs his stuff, and heads out the door slamming it shut. Hiltzik: See what a pussy, he cant handle the truth of my statistics from the poll.
