MISSION STATEMENT
The Department of Personnel recruits and identifies the best qualified candidates for City
employment in a manner consistent with the State Constitution,Civil Service Law, and the
laws governing equal employment opportunity. To accomplish this, the Department
classifies positions, develops and administers competitive examinations, establishes
minimum qualifications for positions, certifies lists of eligible applicants, and audits
appointments and promotions. The Department identifies and monitors under
representation of minorities and women at all levels of City government and helps
agencies to develop remedial plans. In addition, the Department identifies the training
needs of City employees, provides training, and develops and administers programs to
increase productivity and improve the quality of work life for City employees.
