MISSION STATEMENT

Using Federal, State, and City funds, the Department of Employment seeks to bridge the
gap between the City's labor force capacity and work force needs. In partnership with
business, educational institutions, labor, and community-based groups, the Department
provides vocational development, employment training, job placement, and educational
programs to the unemployed and underemployed, including dislocated workers, and
economically disadvantaged adults and young people such as substance abusers,
ex-offenders, inmates, older workers, refugees, homeless individuals and families, high
school dropouts, veterans, and people with disabilities. In addition, the Department
provides services to public assistance recipients as a key part of the City's welfare reform
efforts.
