Narrative 1. Provide an overview of your creative or innovative program?

What is your target audience, grade levels, and number of students? The target audience for this project involves school-age students who attend Ontario Primary School in Ashtabula County. Specifically, this project will primarily include students in third grade at Ontario Primary and partially in fifth grade at Erie Intermediate School. The number of students involved in this project is approximately 104.

2. Describe any partnerships or collaborations that will be developed as part of your project. Will you be working with other teachers, or business/community members? If so, how will this enhance your project? This project is a shared partnership between Megan Schweingruber, Title I staff at Ontario Primary School, in collaboration with third grade teaching staff at Ontario Primary School and Dr. Lisa Ray, fifth grade Mathematics teaching staff at Erie Intermediate School, also located on our Elementary Campus. We believe this partnership between grade levels and buildings will enhance our project by providing hands-on, 21st century learning tools to multiple grade levels in multiple buildings to students with diverse backgrounds. Through collective data and shared information, teachers can continue to work on developing a focused curriculum map that incorporates technology in creative ways and increases student participation and motivation. Lead members will also take responsibility for sharing resources with other staff members at their grade levels under supervision. We plan to gather and share multiple resources and model effective use of student response cards in daily lessons and ongoing assessments with colleagues at both primary and intermediate grade levels. 3. What are the specific outcomes you anticipate as a result of your project? How does this connect to your schools continuous improvement plan? How do these outcomes support student achievement? Specific outcomes expected as a result of this project include: 1. Student participation and performance will improve as measured by collected data including pre-and post- assessments.

2. Inspire teacher and administrative participation towards development of a guided systemic change, or vision, in our school district to create digital environments of learning. Best practices in the classroom will increase through use of digital tools that prepare our students for the global community and workplace. 3. Coordinate grant project with our District Leadership Team and Technology Department in order to develop future funding plans that incorporates response technology and overall support of the digital classroom.

These outcomes address Goal 1 and Goal 2 in our District Plan for school improvement and student achievement: Goal 1: By 2012, overall student performance including subgroups in grades PreK-12 will improve performance on state assessments and common, local assessments in mathematics. Goal 2: By 2012, our district will provide learning environments that are safe, inviting and promote high expectations for all students in order to meet or exceed the states graduation requirement. 4. How do you plan to measure those specific outcomes? How will you evaluate whether or not your project is successful? Lead teachers will measure student learning outcomes using TurningPoint assessment software. The project will be evaluated for success based on whether or not student test scores and participation increase based on pre-and post-assessment data and state and local assessment scores.

5. Provide a detailed budget for your project highlighting specific expenditures and descriptions of how those expenditures support the project. Lead teachers will meet with District Leadership Team monthly in order to share ongoing resources and collected data. Lead teachers will meet bi-weekly with each other to provide feedback and address student, teacher and product issues in order to minimize project barriers. Sources for future financial resources will also be brainstormed during these meetings.

6. How will you be able to sustain your project beyond the 2012-2013 school year, after the funding is spent? Our goal is to allocate resources including community resources and additional grant money in order to extend the project and involve more grade levels and staff members in the process. However, if no additional money is provided our plan is to send the student response cards and TurningPoint assessment software with our Junior High School and High School for the 2013-2014. By reaching out to multiple grade levels, especially at the junior and High School levels, our goal is to broaden our audience and funding resource opportunities.

7. Describe how you think that your project can be replicated by other schools? Many schools are looking for digital learning tools that are effective and challenge higher-level thinking skills and engage students in their style of learning versus traditional methods of teaching. This project is universal and can meets the needs of diverse populations of students in all subject areas and can be easily replicated by other schools based on their district vision to increase student achievement and overall commitment to student-centered learning through technology.

8. Provide a short abstract description (50 words or less) of your project. This will be posted on the Turning Foundation and Northeast Ohio Education Partnership Network websites for winning proposals. Our project mission allows lead teachers to facilitate participating staff implementation of ResponseCard Anywhere and TurningPoint assessment software in order to increase student achievement through use of collaborative digital learning tools that inspire creativity, student engagement and allow teachers to assess student progress.
