S Constitution
The constitutional convention was the start of the constitution; the congress made a resolution to revise the articles of convention and it began on May 25, 1787. The 55 delegates arrived from 12 different states. They were all wealthy men and 1/3 of them own slaves. Washington was chosen to chair the convention, the main author of the constitution was James Madison, he wrote all the conversations the delegates had, the new constitution was adopted on September 17, 1787. The first part of the constitution was the preamble and it was the thesis statement for the government and it listed 6 goals. It said We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domistic tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordian and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. Then it was article one which is about the legislative branch, legis means law.There powers are that they can make laws. Legislative Branch consists of the House of Representatives and the Senate, which together form the United States Congress.The congress have sole authority to declare war and the right to confirm or reject many presidential appointments, and investigative powers. Next is article two which is the executive branch or predsident.The President is responsible for implementing and enforcing the laws written by Congress and, appoints the heads of the federal agencies, including the Cabinet, the Vice President is also part of the Executive Branch.Also the Executive and Legislative branches are elected by the people.Article three of the Constitution, which establishes the Judicial Branch, leaves Congress significant discretion to determine the shape and structure of the federal judiciary.Also the Supreme Court of the United States is the highest court in the land and the only part of the federal judiciary specifically required by the Constitution. Article four discusses the responsibilities and duties of the states as well as what responsibilities the federal government .Requires each state to extend credit and full faith to the public acts, court proceedings, and records to other states.Talks about what obligations the states have. States can be admitted into the Union by Congress, however new states cannot be made by combining multiple states that already exist, unless they get permission from the state legislatures.Article five of the united states constition describes the process whereby the Constitution may be altered. Altering the Constitution consists of proposing an amendment or amendments and ratification. Amendments may be proposed by either both the Senate and the House of Representatives of the congress. Article six of the USA Contitution establishes the laws of the United States made in accordance with it as the supreme law of the land and holds the responsible for debts by the United States under the Articles of Confederation. Article Seven of the USA Constitution provides how many state ratifatcations were necessary in order for the Constitution to take effect, and that is the United States Constitution.
