I.
Distributive- The distributive property lets you multiply a
sum by multiplying each addend separately and then add the products.

Associative (of addition/multiplication)- The associative property says that

you can add or multiply no matter how the numbers are grouped. By grouped I 'how you use parenthesis'. In other words, if you are adding or multiplying it does not matter where you put the parenthesis.

Commutative (of addition/multiplication)- The

Commutative property says that order does not matter when multiplying or adding.

II.
How To Simplify The Expression 4(7x-3)+2x
You must rst use the distributive property to make the expression true. So you must multiply 7x by 4 and 3 by 4. Making the equation 28x-12+2x. All you have to do now is combine like terms making the answer. 30x-12.

III.
Explain The Steps Necessary To Solve The Equation 7x-10-9x= -13 6 3 2 6
You must rst start by combining like terms (7x and 9x). So 7x - 9x is -2x, making the equation now -2x-10=-13. Next to get rid of the 10 you must add 10 to both sides, now the equation is -2x=-3. Now to isolate the variable you have to divide -2x by 2 and divide -3 by 2. making the solution x=1.5

IV.
Explain The Steps Necessary To Solve The Equation 5x+x-1=11
You must rst add the like terms together which are 5x and x. The equation will now be 6x-1=11. You must next add one to both sides making the equation now 6x=12. Now to isolate the variable you divide 6x by 6 and 12 by 6 and you get x=2

V.
Explain how to solve and graph the inequality 2 < x
To Isolate the variable x you have to multiply both sides by -5 making the equation -10 is less than or equal x but since you multiplied by a negative you must switch the sign making the equation actually -10 is greater than or equal to x. Now to graph it you must rst put a circle on the number that you know which is -10 but you dont yet if it is a lled in circle or not. To gure this out you have to see if its greater than or equal to or less than or equal to or greater than or less than. In this case its greater than or equal to meaning you would ll in the bubble. So you would put a lled in bubble on -10 and make an arrow going right because its greater than or equal to -10.

-5

VII.
Explain what an open circle and a closed circle mean when graphing inequalities on a number line

An open circle means that the number is either greater or less than but the variable could not be that same number. However a lled in bubble is when the signs are either greater than or equal to or less than or equal to could possible be that number which is why you ll in the circle to show that it is possible that the numbers could be the same.

Solve the following inequality word problems. Show all work.
Chris wants to buy a bicycle that costs $160. If she saves $12 each week, what is the fewest number of weeks she must save in order to buy the bicycle?

Mark worked on math homework less than 1/3 the amount of time that his brother did. If Mark spent 25 minutes on his math homework, how much time did his brother spend on his math homework?
