VA1-1.4 Use all art materials and tools in a safe and responsible manner. Assessment(s) of the Objectives: Lesson Objective Students will be able to successfully complete the Im glad Im me because paper. Assessment of the Objective This lesson will be used as a pre-assessment. In writers workshop, the students have been working on different types of writing. Opinion writing is one of the next topics to appear in the classroom. Having the students do the Im glad Im me because assignment is a good way to introduce the students to opinion writing. Use of Formative Assessment This lesson will help me to determine what the students know about opinion writing. My objective states that students will be able to successfully complete the Im glad Im me because paper. I believe this to be an easily reachable objective for these students.

Accommodations: For my students who are hearing and visually impaired, I will seat them closer to me on the rug during the reading of the book. For my students with behavioral problems, I will keep my eye on them as we are reading and if a problem occurs I will have the student go to their desk for the rest of the reading. Materials: 1. Throughout the book, we will stop to talk about what is going on, and how the chameleon changes as the story progresses. (There will be a lot of laughing from the students ) 4. When we are done reading the book, I will tell the students about the activity that I have for them to do. 5. I will have a copy of the activity on the board that I will fill out as an example for the class. 6. After I have completed the copy on the board I will show the students my paper, which I will have written before the lesson. This copy has been colored along with the sentence being completed. 7. I will remind the students that I want to see capital/upper case letters, punctuation, finger spacing, and their best hand writing. 8. I will remind all of the students that I know what their best hand writing looks like because I have seen it before and that I want to see it again. 9. I will tell the students that when they are done writing, I need to check it before they can start to color their chameleon. 10. I will then hand each student a paper before they head back to their seats to get started.

11. As the students are working, I will walk around the room to help those students who need more help than others. I will pay special attention to Kemarion. I will do my best to encourage him to do his best work. 12. As the students finish I will check their work and after I have checked it, they may begin to color the chameleon. 13. For the early finishers in my class, I will have them continue their opinion writing on another sheet of paper. I will have the students write a paragraph explaining why they are glad that they are who they are.
