Goal #4 Candidates apply their knowledge of curriculum content and design to support learners construction of knowledge.

Artifact Reflection: This artifact came out of the MAT 726 Technology in Reflective Teacher Leadership class. This artifact was a problem statement that dealt with implementing more technology in my my math classroom. It involved me looking at my math curriculum and trying to come up with different ways to incorporate technology within the mathematics world. The solution to this problem was incorporating Khan Academy into my pull-out freshmen math class. Khan Academy is a math website that I utilized during class time and saw very positive results. It aligns very well with what we are doing within the class and student grades have only gone up as a result. NBPTS 2nd Core Proposition: Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects to students. By knowing what Khan Academy had to offer and where we were in terms of curriculum within my freshmen pull-out math class it made it easy to align. This shows that I know the subject I teach and how to find ways to incorporate different tools and strategies into my classroom.

With this being said math takes up a huge part of my day whether it is within the resource room or math room. There is a wide variety of subjects and students that I work within the area of mathematics inside the resource room everyday. Whether it is teaching my ninth grade math group, re-teaching PreAlgebra, Algebra, Geometry, or Learning Lab, mathematics is being instructed. After reflecting on my daily teaching schedule and looking at what I have researched in terms of technology the past couple weeks one thing came to mind. This one thing being that I am not utilizing technology the ways I can be within the area of mathematics other than the typical calculator, overhead projector, or document camera. One way that I can start benefitting from technology in my resource room is by utilizing an online resource called Khan Academy. Khan Academy is a math website that I have used in the past with students and could tell they benefitted from it. For some reason I havent really made it an emphasis to use this online tool more often especially for some of my lower level math students.
