Executive summary
The main objective of completing this report is to carry out a self evaluation in order to critically examine ones own style as an authentic leader. This is the main reason to review various leadership models in order to benchmark ones capacity, skills and knowledge as a leader. This report will focus on three areas of ones own life story which is self-awareness, values and motivations. These will be done thru some tests then finally an analysis on the research. From the self-awareness I was able to know a lot of things which I myself didnt know that was in me, and not only me in others too. Ive given out a questionnaire to my colleagues, friends and family to know more about me and I have got some responds and I was able to come to a conclusion that my authentic style of leadership is Transformational leadership. Appendixes are given at the back of the report.

1. Introduction

The purpose of this authentic journey report is to identify and conduct a self-evaluation in order to critically identify ones own style as an authentic leader. I have gathered all the things I have learned in the theoretical sections to recognize my own style. To recognize my leadership style I had to go through certain steps to analyze myself critically. As the first step we were supposed to complete the given self-awareness handbook to create my life story according to the sequential steps given in the book. Second book was about reflections on values and to prioritize them according to my belief honestly. Third book was about extrinsic and intrinsic motivation and also about interests. The work book has given us a structure on which we should follow to do our report and also to develop our life story. I have gathered information about myself with the help of the three workbooks and also the questionnaire. For the authentic report my personal view is not enough therefore Ive got my beloved ones opinions, suggestions, thoughts and so on to my report as well.

2. Self-awareness
The things I have learnt throughout my life in general regarding self-awareness are selfcontrol, investigating and observation of my experiences, ability to distinguish my understanding and act accordingly so it could be improved precisely and meaningfully and also to be put forward that what I have gained to the nearest future more over gaining an understanding of the thought process of human nature has opened many doors for me to be awakened even in day to day life likewise in within business. The ability to recognize the gestures of the people around me has also played a vast role which expanded my awareness in many ways which made me act at east at most situations.

2.1 Character Mapping Within my life story have come across various characters who molded, strengthened, inspired and also were tremendously challenging to me. In accordance to the character mapping, the hero is my own self because it is this which shows how i have dealt with positivity or negativity. My Mentor is Mr. Kaniskha Weeramunda who has been a bundle of inspiration and who motivated us all throughout the degree. Threshold guardian is the god almighty and the shape shifter is my younger sister who bullies me from time to time but also can be very helpful too at times. My elder sister is considered as my herald because she is the reason i do my things by myself most of the time. Allies are my best friends who are always there for me to lend a hand in certain possible situations while the trickster is my current college mate Nimasha who is acting to be nice to my face and talking nasty things behind my back but thats how people are different people with different mentalities and lastly my shadow is my own grandmother who haunts me from small days since the day I hid mi younger sisters letters in which she still looks for and my grandmother keeps staring at me since shes the only one who knows that I hid it. 2.3 Others perspective of me In this report you must have seen the strengths and weaknesses of my life and my role models and characters that molded me for who I am today. Now you have also seen me through another person perspective through Johari window and questionnaire. Their attitudes towards me and the understanding who were involved in this authentic group report. By now they have already given their feedbacks on what my suitable leadership style is which is transformational leadership style. It has become a great advantage getting to confront with sensitive feedback which comes from others. That feedback helped me to know and improve my understanding further and further expanding it in time. This is the ground where my understandings of some situations are resting in order to be realized and experienced with the feedback even through questionnaires. 5|Page

3. Values
Your values are the things that you believe are important in the way you live and work. They (should) determine your priorities, and, deep down, they're probably the measures you use to tell if your life is turning out the way you want it to. (Mindtools 2013) Values shape our personality and identity and if the values are positive then the path to the future is clear as crystal, Vice-versa. The values we create will last through out our life time and its in our hands whether to hang on to it or let go.

3.1 My Values
I have been able to identify some main values of my life through self-awareness and character mapping and I have had the privilege to strengthen myself from time to time and getting back on track, given below are some of my values.

Interest and wellbeing of others

In my life it hasnt always been about me and myself it has been about other and their wellbeing, its not because people want me to do things for them even though they do, its because it makes me happy when Im there for others and it doesnt matter what they think or what others think as long as Im being genuine enough.

Intellect of what is good and bad

When an individual knows what good and bad is then a person can make careful decisions on every single thing they do and see what others do as well clearly because they see things separately from what is bad to what is good. This ensures that a person who knows this well is more likely to commit wrong and come in to conclusions.

Fair
Everyone likes to be treated equally, and they also have a right to be treated equally. A person should treat other people how they would like to be treated by other people thats what most people say. Being fair is the best thing you can do for yourself and other people because from what I believe what goes around comes around.

Honesty
Honesty is the best key for any relationship, its accepting your mistakes. First a person should be honest to himself then accept their flaws no matter how hard it is. This ensures a good healthy and a long lasting any kind of relationship with anyone. 6|Page

MGT 3150

Responsibility
This is the stage where you know whether you can take some weight in to your life and carry on without any hesitation. People take responsibility when they see the differences in people but still accept as who they are in person, thats how it should be.

Trustworthy
This is the same as honesty this too builds a good relationship but this should be more from inner part of our self before reaching others which is very important. Other people will surely notice this value when given tasks to be accomplished.

Determination
This is important to me because this shows how determined a person or I can be to achieve a goal or something I was planning. Its an aim we are trying to accomplish somehow. This can also be defined by ones intellect of responsibility towards their work.

Respect
This value is important to me because this shows the interaction between the outside world and myself. I really do respect each and every individual without any boundaries. You can never force anyone to respect you truly if they dont want to, but at first before respecting anyone else you should respect yourself. I respect myself a lot.

Learning
People learn thru many ways about many things, but learning the correct way is the best way and the hardest way but in the bright side it will deviate you to a correct path, this is the path I look forward to and what my path is. I have always loved learning and Ill be learning something new each and every day for the rest of my life.

Modesty
Modesty is when you be reserved and well behaved, I like being modest this didnt come all of a sudden from nowhere but from the gestures of people around me has also played a major role which expanded my awareness in many ways to be modest in most situations.

4. Motivations
Motivation is the word derived from the word motive which means needs, desires, wants or drives within the individuals. It is the process of stimulating people to actions to accomplish the goals. (Management study guide 2013) in my life Ive got motivated mostly through my life experiences and also the people who entered my life from time to time. 4.1 My extrinsic motivations Extrinsic motivations are measured thru external factors and what I expect from others. Given below are the extrinsic motivations. Statues and privilege Statues are gained from what we do, if I can gain statues then I can reach out to many people in different ways to gather their lives together. Statues have become a requirement in this society nowadays. Being privileged motives me to reach out and serve the society in a good manner. Opportunities Opportunities motivates me to experience things that I havent experienced before, and this is a great advantage for me to reach for my goals as well as experiencing and meeting new people and new traditions and values ad feel the difference. Obligations to others Being really frank this is something which is out of my league but I do get obliged to others as a weakness I say yes and do things they ask me to. The motivation factor here is that when people put obligations I get motivated and somehow do the things my own way and Im satisfied. Association with prestigious institutions This motivates me to learn about different things and different values that they have and the culture and to meet and discuss ideas with different people with different thoughts and to mix their knowledge, this actually motivates me to learn.

4.2

My intrinsic motivations

Intrinsic motivations are measured from within its what I expect from myself. Given below are the extrinsic motivations.

Helping others Helping others motivate me to work more and more and talk to them and make them feel happy and it also motivates me to learn about the differences among people but accept the people as who they are in person.

Satisfaction from doing a good job Job satisfaction is usually determined by however well outcome meet or exceed expectations. as an example, if organization participants feel that area unit they're operating a lot of more durable than others within the department however are receiving fewer rewards they're going to in all probability have a negative attitudes towards the work, the boss and or coworkers. Being with people I care about When I am with people I care it gives me so much of strength for me to do my work like a pillar always at the back, this motivates me to reach out and do my best for my loved ones and to succeed in everything I do. Having a freedom to choose my tasks When there is freedom I get motivated to experience things that I havent experienced and to do things how I want it to be rather than how things should be. So this shows that I will be motivated to do various kinds of things. Being Creative Creativity is multi-dimensional: it may be associate approach, a skill, a trait, ability, or a mixture of all of those. After you are an artistic, you transcend the easy approach to attain one thing fully new and distinctive. The flexibility to essentially perceive one thing in a very deep and sophisticated approach needs creative thinking

Interests At home my interest was in looking at several situations and day to day activities. At college my interest was how my teachers and students act, talk, behave, and the way they handle their speech, cleanliness, morality, punctuality and how one follows the particular learning environment rules and laws. These have also become the roots which made my interests wider with curiosity to explore even further. Such experiences that interested me are such talks about celebrities and more. Moreover the creativity, imagination, designs and the behaviour of the people made me interested in such a way that I observed them closely.

6. Conclusion
There are various definitions for a leader some argue saying leaders are born and some say leaders are made. Anyone can could be a leader to someone in some special way thats according to my belief. In every individual there is an inner being who is hidden we have to try and discover that inner man we have and develop to create something new. This authentic journey report has helped me in many ways to become self-aware and also to find my unique leadership style through self-analysis and from others perspectives of myself. First and foremost before writing this report I took a moment to go through my memory lane and from that I became aware of the experiences Ive had throughout my life and then analyzed the characters which took part in my life from time to time. From the moods Ive had to the attitudes and going to my favorite books and movies. Then I wanted to know how others saw me so instead of asking them directly I made a questionnaire so that I could analyze and develop my skills and also this report. Then came my values and my interests and motivations divided into two parts namely extrinsic and intrinsic. It was reliable now for me to make the personal development plan. I was able to prioritize my values from this authentic journey. After doing all three work books and also this report I have identified a lot a lot about myself clearly and it has become a great advantage getting to confront with sensitive feedback which comes from others. That feedback helped me to know and improve my understanding further and further expanding it in time. This is the ground where my understandings of some situations are resting in order to be realized and experienced with the feedback even through questionnaires. Events such as breakdowns which occur while trying to reach my goal have also become the strength which uplifted me time to time with negative and positive influence.

Presentation 01 Title Steve Jobs, As a Transformational Leader Team Members: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Minell Perera Nimasha Senavirathna Nayomi Ekanayake Aqeel Sathuk Mafaz Musthakeem

Personal gain Team Formation This was the first time the five of us in person got together during the degree as a group and was asked to select a business leader on our choice and discuss about his leadership style. Besides starting off with the leader we planned on getting to know each one of us first so that we came go forward as a team together to succeed. The Matters that arose Even though we got to know each other on the first day itself we still were new to each other so there was lack of communication among the five of us and also because of the rough work schedule each of us had it was tough to adjust a time. Since this was very the first group presentation for us to submit as a group this was also a challenge for us, we had to find out what we had to include in the document and also the recording from other groups and also our coordinator, and also our recording wasnt clear the very first time we recorded since we didnt have enough facilities and equipments. Key learnings Even though we all had rough work schedules we all worked late nights and cooperated with each other when no matter how much we get mad at each other, we built a team relationship and a bond and after the presentation was finally handed over we all celebrated our victory. What we learnt about Mr. Steve Jobs was that he would find the most efficient way to get work done somehow or another. As we know he was a very creative leader and also who will always find the best in each and every employee who works under him. Presentation 02 15 | P a g e

Title Mike Duke, Unethical Business practices Team Members: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Minell Perera Nimasha Senavirathna Nayomi Ekanayake Aqeel Sathuk Mafaz Musthakeem

Personal gain The Matters that arose By this time we have already submitted our first group assignment and weve all settled down in our own space. We communicated more with each group member to get things sorted and also got friendlier than the initial stage. This time round things were different than before though, we had to do something more creative with the work load of other modules and also our own work schedules. The time factor was a issue this time and also creativity and discussion as we didnt have much time to discuss. There were problems in the surrounding too during the recording and the sound that it wasnt so clear.

Key learnings All in all since this was the last presentation as a group we put in our full effort to give in our best to achieve a good score and to succeed and we were friendlier and closer and also stronger than the first presentation and that was the main reason that we were able to get this done so quickly and with a good aim. When we take the presentation into consideration it is clear that being ethical plays a major role not only in an organization but in a team as well. A person should try his level best to live by his good values no matter how unethical practices maybe tempting. This is a good lesson for each and every one who seeks more and more until they barely know that they have destroyed their lives already knowingly or not.

I distributed this questionnaire to few of my colleagues, friends and also family members to evaluate me honestly to find out my true leadership style. I have been researching about leadership styles and now I have collected a lot of questions from different styles of leaderships. The method used First and foremost I researched a lot about leadership and styles and about each and every characteristic then I identified my leadership style from my life then from the researches I did and the information I gathered I made some questions and made a questionnaire, some qualities are in me where as some are not in me but its up to the others to decide if its actually true or not. Then I finally distributed the questionnaire and collected each and everyones feedback finally I analyzed the data I gathered from the feedback and arrived at a conclusion. Conclusion It seems to me that all of my friends, family, and colleagues know me well, since they have ranked me exactly as my expectations too. Many of my respondents have scored high values for me for the transformational leaders style. As I thought and came to a conclusion before too after going through my life and researching I knew it would have been transformational leader style which suits me the most. Given below are some of the relevant graphs which indicate what I thought it would be and how it actually was.
