Tuning In
We started this unit by inviting artists to conduct workshops for the students. Artists Ben and Jamie Bermudez helped us show our creativity in visual arts through the lines and shapes that we used in making bigger pictures.
Tuning In
After the workshop, we tried to visualize how our mind would look like from the inside. In this activity, we made scrappy caps to show what kind of artists we are, as represented by our hats. After which, we tried to define what art is, its different forms and function and its connection to the people so that well be able to identify what we already know about the unit.
Finding Out
The three big questions that drove the inquiry were: What are the different forms of art? (form) How is art used? (function) How is art connected to the culture and its people? (connection) To answer these questions, we visited the Angono Petroglyphs in Binangonan to see the oldest art form in the Philippines, Blanco Museum to see the function of the arts which is a to express ones self, to show creativity, to depict an activity and culture in a certain place. We also visited the Ayala Museum and National Museum to see a variety of art form and look at how arts is connected to the culture of people. To widen our perspective further, we took the opportunity to observe and present during the Linggo ng Wika to show how people express themselves in many different ways.
Finding Out
We looked at different artifacts, books and pictures that enabled us to create questions that will drive our inquiry. Through these questions, we started finding out through the lens of the key concepts form, function and connection.

Sorting Out
We came up with a 15 minute simultaneous presentation during the Buwan ng Wika celebration to show how Region 1 is unique in terms of their dances, food, clothing, architecture, festivals, music, language and the like.
Sorting Out
We reflected on the question What is art? after the field trips and watching videos about the topic. After which, we tried to show our answer to that question through either an abstract or figurative painting. In our expert groups, we tried to sort out what we know through felt paper art. We tried to show our understanding about the forms and functions of the arts.
Going
Further
Now that we already know more about the form, function and connection of the arts to the people, we went further by learning concepts that will enable us to appreciate art such as, lines, shapes, colors, light and senses. We found out more about these science concepts by watching videos, experimenting and reading texts about the topic. We sorted out what we have through an art work.
Discipline Integration
Visual Arts
We learned about the use of painting and drawing as a means of expression, particularly about mural paintings or paintings created by more than one artist. Our class developed communication skills as our expression ranged from visual to verbal. We looked into Form as we became aware on how our paintings and drawings will appear. We began to understand how painting and drawing expresses ones ideas.
Discipline Integration
Physical Education
We learned how to dance Binasuan for the Buwan ng Wika presentation in the second unit. Dancing is a type of art and can be used as a form of expression. We discovered that Binasuan originated in Pangasinan. Dancers of Binasuan exhibit excellent balancing skills in holding the glasses. We developed our coordination and balancing skill as well in this unit.
Discipline Integration
Information Technology

We were able to use Sebran software to familiarize ourselves in numeracy and literacy and use MS office to learn and be more familiar with desktop publishing
