. One day one fellow met the great philosopher and said, "Do you know what I ust heard a!out your friend"" "#old on a minute," Socrates replied. "$efore telling me anything I%d like you to pass a little test. It%s called the Triple Filter Test." "Triple filter"" "That%s right," Socrates continued. "$efore you talk to me a!out my friend, it might !e a good idea to take a moment and filter what you%re going to say. That%s why I call it the triple filter test. The first filter is Truth. #a&e you made a!solutely sure that what you are a!out to tell me is true"" "'o," the man said, "actually I ust heard a!out it and..." "(ll right," said Socrates. "So you don%t know if it%s true or not. 'ow let%s try the second filter, the filter of Goodness. Is what you are a!out to tell me a!out my friend something good"" "'o, on the contrary..." "So," Socrates continued, "you want to tell me something !ad a!out him, !ut you%re not certain it%s true. )ou may still pass the test though, !ecause there%s one filter left, the filter of *sefulness. Is what you want to tell me a!out my friend going to !e useful to me"" "'o, not really." "+ell," concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither true nor good nor e&en useful, why tell it to me at all"" Friends, *se this triple filter each time you hear loose talk a!out any of your near and dear ones.
