Experience
Youth Leader at State College Presbyterian Fall 2012 - Present
I am a High School youth leader for the youth group Fellowship in Senior High (FISH) at the State College Presbyterian Church. We provide a safe environment for the youth; particularly those who tend to fall through the cracks at the local high school. Our group time is split into large group time and small group time, and our leader team consists of 18 leaders. During large group it is 18 leaders to a range of 50-80 high school youth and during small groups it is two leaders for 6-14 youth.
Spring 2013
I tutored elementary aged students in a one-on-one home tutoring environment. I taught vocabulary and phrases based on the childs interests to stimulate a desire to learn French, while also teaching practical knowledge.
Fall 2012
With a co-teacher, I taught a nine-week after school program to first and second grade in French at Easterly Parkway Elementary School, State College, PA. This class consisted of 18 first and second graders who had no prior interactions with the language. We designed and utilized lesson plans based on the American Council for Teaching Foreign Languages (ACTFL) guidelines, as well as receiving feedback from a school district supervisor as well as our professor.
June 2012
Aided in the French department as an assistant teacher at the levels of French I, French II, French III and French III IB This experience lasted for two weeks and there was feedback from the mentor teacher as well as a teaching support class that we attended in conjunction with being in the schools.
May 2012
Taught a one-week overnight camp for fifth grade students about the environment, the ecosystem and the outdoors in general. This consisted of both being a teacher/mentor as well as a guardian. I was in charge of 8 boys in my cabin during non-teaching times and during teacher times there were teaching teams of four counselors responsible for a larger group of children.
