Hello 1st Grade Families!! I cant believe Thanksgiving is already tomorrow and our winter break will be here before we know it! We are having so much fun in first grade that time sure is flying by!

Reading ~ Last week, we began a new unit on non-fiction. The students are learning about how non-fiction books can teach us about the world. We learned how non-fiction books can be sorted into eo le, laces, and things. We also racticed reading non-fiction books with fluency, and e!amined how reading fluently with non-fiction books looks a little differently than reading fluently with fiction books. We also began looking at some different te!t features in our books and how those can teach us even more " ictures, ca tions, diagrams and labels#$.

Writing ~ Last week, we began a non-fiction writing unit as well. %tudents s ent time thinking about to ics that they are &e! erts' on or &know ( L)T about'. This week they have s ent time writing some of these non-fiction stories. It is fun to listen to some of the to ics that they are e! erts on!

Math ~ We assessed To ic * last week and it was sent home. Thank you for signing and returning the To ic * test. If you have not returned it yet, lease do so as soon as ossible. We are now on To ic + which continues to work on addition and subtraction u to ,-. to all first and second graders. This rogram went along well with our study of weather and the water cycle. We are looking forward to our u coming science unit on &sound' in 1ecember! Social Studies ~ The first graders s ent a lot of time learning about the 2ilgrims, 3ative (mericans, .ayflower, and the first Thanksgiving this month. 4o efully your child is able to share some of his5her knowledge with you!
