Spreadsheets are computer programs that help you organize data mostly for items in inventory, income and

expenses, debits and credits (For this article, I will mainly talk about Microsoft Excel). It is designed with figures arranged in rows and columns of a grid that are called cells which are the intersections to manage numbers and calculations easily. It also calculates totals, averages, percentages, budgets, or other complex financial and scientific/mathematic formulas. Spreadsheets have also a feature that if you want to make a graph, you could just give the statistics and data about the graph that you want and it will make it for you. It could be used for a lot of things but this is the main purpose of spreadsheets.

In a spreadsheet cells are labeled with columns (letters), and rows (numbers) which data are entered in. There are three basic types of data that can be entered in a cell, Labels, values, and formulas. Labels are cells that contain texts which help to identify what you are talking about. Values are data represented as numbers. And formulas are mathematical equation used to calculate. These formulas will not actually show up in the spreadsheet but it will show the total value of which data are being calculated. If you want to know the total value of all the data entered in a spreadsheet, you would put a formula in the cell that you want the total to be shown. For example, you want to add up the data you entered in column A and you want the value to be shown at cell B1. You would put the formula =SUM(A1:A2:A3) in cell B1 to show the total value of the data you entered. There are a lot of mathematical formulas used in spreadsheets but all formulas must begin with the = sign.

There are more uses that an electronic spreadsheet can be used for. Graphing or charting data to assist users is one of them. If you want a graphical representation of data, you could use charts which are available in spreadsheets. The most often used to show data are Bar graphs or column charts. The data are displayed using bars or rectangles. The taller or longer that figure is, the greater the value. This could be very helpful for representing reports. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spreadsheet http://www.web-esl.com/spreadsheet/Spreadsheets.htm

In our first day of my presentation assignment, I learned a lot of things. I knew some of these things before but I forgot so I learned them again. I remembered how to drag and drop cells and how to center and align the text in the cells. I also learned how to put color fills in the cells.
