Nick Schreiber Unit: High School Grades 10-11th Geometry Selected Response Clear Purpose: This is a formative assessment

t that can be used as a practice test that students can use to study before a summative assessment. The purpose of this assessment is to evaluate the students knowledge and understanding of high school geometry. It uses learning goals from throughout the HSCEs. This assessment should help the instructor identify what needs to be clarified before the summative assessment. The student can also identify their own knowledge and understanding about the unit. This assessment will help them increase their understanding of the definitions that are covered in this unit. This assessment will not be graded, however, by doing well enough on the assessment the student should do better on the summative assessment given later. These questions do not follow word for word the HSCE for high school math, however, in order for students to succeed at those requirements they must have a strong knowledge of the basic concepts. Therefore, this assessment is used to identify whether the student has that strong knowledge. Also please be sure to complete the student reflection at the end of the assessment. Standards/Benchmarks: G1.1.2 Construct proofs involving corresponding angles alternate interior angles, alternate exterior angles and consecutive interior angles. G1.1.1 Construct proofs involving vertical angles, linear pairs of angles, supplementary angles, complimentary angles and right angles. G1.2.1 Prove the sum of the angles of a triangle are 180 and that an exterior angle of a triangle is the sum of two remote interior angles. Clear Targets:

Learning Target

1. I know the definitions of a supplementary angle, complimentary angle and right angle. 2. I know the definition of alternate interior angles, alternate exterior angles and corresponding angles 3. I know the definition of acute, obtuse and right angles 4. Using the definitions of classifications of triangles, I can classify an unknown triangle 5. I can use the definition of a triangle to find a missing angle measurement 8. I can use algebra to solve missing values of complimentary and supplementary angles. 9. I know the definition of a perpendicular and parallel line. 10. I can identify triangles by angles and by sides Total

Directions: You will have the entire class period to complete this assessment. When you are given this assessment please put your name, date and hour at the top of the paper. There are 20 questions, each worth 1 point, for a total of 20 points. There are three parts to the assessment, 10 multiple choice, 5 fill in the blank and 5 True/False questions. There will be a word bank that you can choose from for the fill in the blank questions, however, not all of the words will be used in the word bank. Write your answers in the blank spaces provided and also be sure to mark whether you are sure or unsure of your answer for each question. If you are confused about any question, please raise your hand and wait for me to come to you. When you have completed the assessment please turn your paper over and complete the practice problem on the white board. This problem is simply for practice, it will not be graded, however I will check to see that you have done some work and at least attempted it. When you are finished DO NOT turn your quiz into me, please remained seated and raise your hand. I will come grab your test from you when you are finished and I see that your hand is raised. Please also remember to keep your eyes on your own test, I want to know how much you know and not what your neighbor knows. If you have to use the restroom at any time during the assessment, quietly walk to my desk and I will give you a hall pass. Do not feel discouraged about this assessment, it is merely practice and nothing on this assessment is new information to you. I am confident that all of you will be able to answer every single question correctly!
