Caroline Spaugh English 1101 Rothwell Midterm Reflection 1) How do you discover/choose your subjects?

Discovering and choosing a subject can come and go. I go with what comes to mind first and then continue off that subject. I believe one chooses a subject off of experience mostly. Also discovering a subject is found by how a subject relates to myself or not and choose whichever appeals and relates the most. In the Criteria for a successful Literacy Narrative Analysis I used adaptation to set up a situation, question, and issue which greatly helps on finding subjects. 2) How do you respond to your audiences? Hearing the audiences responses is always a good thing because you get more views than just my own view. I respond to my audiences by getting their opinions and then go over what they believe in my work. As in my high school literacy to college literacy essay I discussed the higher proficiency of writing so hearing my audience in class to my writing would be more crucial than what I wouldve heard from an audience in high school but that is what improves the quality of a paper. 3) How do you find and use specifics? To find and use specifics I just use things that I have experienced. Describing concrete experience is how finding and using specifics would be done. I find specifics by getting my thoughts together and immediately writing about it and then I use them by going in more depth with what I found and how I found the specifics. 4) How do you design your texts? I design my texts with introducing the subject then I talk more and more of that subject until I cant anymore as a paper goes along, and then I conclude my text. I make sure that the subjects settle as a solution.

5) How do you write? I write what comes to mind and how I feel. I believe it comes from the mind but also is a physical doing. Writing for me is and can sometimes be difficult but I know the more I write the better I will be at is so I write with the mind set for it to progress.

6) How do you revise and help others revise? I revise by reading over feedback I get and then put that information into my paper because my thoughts plus anothers thoughts will most likely make a better essay or any work. I help others revise by writing down for them what could be worse and what could be better. I tell them what my thought process is. For the Analysis of Literacy Draft we had a worksheet that included a reader and the writer and it would get both opinions on the content, organization, and textures of the paper which helped prepare for the draft because it got your own opinion and the readers and then could put them together for the draft.

7) What changes in all of the above do you see and value? What I see and value in all the questions and responses is that reflections and writing can be concrete, active, reflective, and/or abstract. You can do, plan, review, conclude which will guide writing and overall guide literacy.

PART 1: My name is Caroline Spaugh and I am a freshman at UNCC. I came here from Greensboro which was my hometown and I lived there my whole life. UNC charlotte is the best decision I made. I have always known my way around charlotte because my family lives here. I am glad to be taking this course, I have already learned a lot! High school was so much fun but being here at Charlotte as a 49er is even better. I have a sister who goes here who influenced my decision to come here but I couldnt be happier that she did! As I said in my introduction letter at the beginning of the year I had a B or a C average in English and I am ready and have been ready to work even harder to get a better grade!

PART 3: 1) As in my paper about the transition from high school to college, I chose that subject because it was what I was experiencing at the time. I was going through that transition between the two. 2) For the narrative draft I got feedback from my cover letter asking questions about what I was saying throughout my paper and then I would read those and go over my paper to what my audience said for the final. 3) I found and used specifics with my literacy analysis. I had to go into great detail and find specifics by thinking of what occurred when adapting from high school to college. I had to think of what came about in high school and compare that to what is happening in college. When I

wrote the weekly writing about having to finding some place on campus it was like using the five senses can help one find and use specifics. I talked about how I saw people always in the courtyard between Moore and Sanford how I would SEE them standing and HEAR them talking. 4) In my final literacy narrative analysis I designed my text to open with a situation and opinion, then I discuss all about that by getting my points across, showing and not telling, and using specific examples and then concluding it with presenting a solution. 5) I write by thinking and then getting my thoughts down. For example in my journal entries and weekly writings I just write and write until I cant think of anymore to write about. I write with feeling due to the fact that a transition from high school to college comes from a feeling people have. They have a feeling that there is change. As said in my cover letters for my narrative and other cover letters I make choices to get a bunch of thoughts and let them all out at once and then work on the formation and texture of the paper. 6) On my draft for my narrative and my literacy analysis they both got revised. I would submit the draft and would then get others opinions such as from students or teacher. Theyd ask questions and I simply answered the questions in my final which revised my paper. 7) In all the journal entries, weekly writings, drafts, finals, and work from this class all come from doing, planning, reviewing, and concluding. Those are always included no matter how apparent and clear or not it may be. PART 4: There are three main goals that I have for the rest of the semester. The first goal is to start recording my work down and using a planner of some sort (the one we received in class) so that I dont procrastinate and have more time to work on my work so that is can be more successful work. It will help me by giving me plenty of more time. The second goal is to start writing more. It can be free writes, or just writing in a journal. Any form of writing is what I want to do more and become better at doing. It will help me by influencing me to become a better writer and understanding my own writing more.

Everything in my portfolio has already increased the way I write. The third goal is to improve my grammar, punctuation and vocabulary by taking in information more and advancing my capability to do that. It will help me by enhancing my every doing and thought that deals with literacy.
