Mission Statement Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School contributes to the intellectual, physical, aesthetic, creative, moral, and social development of its students by providing challenges and opportunities for them to gain the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to enrich their lives and society. Business 8 is a part of the Applied Skills rotation. Business 8 topics and Prescribed Learning Outcomes include: Business Communications demonstrate Level I touch keyboarding on alphanumeric keyboards use appropriate communication tools and skills needed for business and the workplace outline ways that businesses communicate information regarding copyright, potential risks, and products or services Finance Economics outline the effects on a local economy of changes both in consumer needs and wants and in the supply of and demand for resources Marketing Entrepreneurship

prepare and use a budget and evaluate its effectiveness in meeting a specific need describe ways financial institutions assist businesses and individuals with money management

explain how marketing practices within the marketing mix affect consumers describe the channels of distribution involved in the flow of products and services from producer to consumer

explain the role of entrepreneurs in economies describe entrepreneurial skills and attributes applicable to a variety of work environments generate business ideas to meet identified needs or opportunities

Course Expectations Please refer to the 2013/14 school agenda for complete details of school board policies. Some general rules for the course are as follows: Lates and unexcused absences will effect participation and work habit marks Students are responsible to make up missed assignments upon returning to school 2 marks deducted per day (NOT per class) No food or drink in the computer lab (water is accepted if its a bottle accompanying a lid) Disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated Students are expected to come to class prepared (flash drive (USB), binder, writing material, paper) Cell phones are not to be used unless with teacher permission (strictly for assignments, no texting or calling)
