Fuentes Reflection on Assigned Material

Writing and reading are very important in todays society. In fact, they are constant in everyday living and always have room to improve. While frequently improving, the simplest form of literacy can make an enormous influence on ones life. As college students, we see our literary improvement through in-class essays, reading responses, and timed writing assignments. Although some may not acknowledge it, these constructive exercises and challenging deadlines help us improve our skills so that we may continue our success within society. As I inquire into literacy, English 1101 has helped me improve my writing capabilities while exploring different discourses, contexts, and experiences. The Literacy Memoir assignment was interesting because we had to dig deep within our childhood and describe specific situations that indirectly helped us improve our literacy. We were to explain who our literary sponsors were throughout these literacy events and recognize their impact on our lives. These impacts, small and big, are what increased our awareness on how important literacy is today. While writing my Literacy Memoir, I felt a sense of nostalgia and comfort. With assignments such as this one, I feel more comfortable while writing because there is a sense of opinion and creativity. Presenting a rhetorical analysis is another activity I enjoyed doing as an English 1101 student. Normally, I do not deeply analyze such things as commercials, articles, news casts, etc. However, this activity has helped me realize what certain people do to catch the attention of an individual or a specific group of individuals. As we grow older and attempt to continue our success, it is important to know how to capture your

As English 1101 students, we are continuously improving our literary capabilities as writers and analyzers. Before this course began, I had a slight understanding for writing due to the Advanced Placement English course I took my senior year. However, since then I continue to improve my writing capabilities and have learned to successfully analyze specific works and situations. To reflect on our writing, we engage with our classmates and revise each others works. This creates a friendly environment which helps the students feel more comfortable with their writing. Most students tend to think of revision as looking specifically for grammar and punctuation errors, however, true revision involves a lot more than that. No one ever has a perfect first draft, so with the sense of comfort that has been set is extremely helpful while on our road of improvement. Revision is the core asset in helping English students progress. Without revision, we would never excel.
