Preparing The Activity (Please Type) Activity Description What are you doing for your activity? Describe activity in very specific step-by-step detail, using numbers or bullets. Include materials, book titles/authors, song/finger play words, discussions, etc. Write descriptions as if you will be giving instructions to a substitute teacher: For circle time I would like to read to the children. I will be reading a book that my mom read to me when I was young and became my favorite book. The book is called Chrysanthemum and it is about a little mouse who loves her name before she goes to school, but when she starts going to school the other kids make fun of her name. Because of this she starts to not like her name until her teacher, who had been pregnant through the whole book, names her child Chrysanthemum when she is born. Then all the kids start to think that being named after a flower is nice and then Chrysanthemum likes her name again. Next I would like to do an activity where we go fishing for names. I would like to write each childs name on a fish and attach paper clips to the fish. Then I will attach a magnet to a fishing pole and each child can fish for their name. Lastly I would like to sing a song that goes like this: (childs name) has two hands that clap, hands that clap, hands that clap. (childs name) has two hands that clap, clap and turn around. I will take turns putting each childs name in the gap and when it is their turn they can turn around and then I will have them sit down so that we know who has had a turn. Hopefully all the kids will sing with me.

Connecting to Self What skills and strategies are you hoping to practice on your part: I still get pretty nervous about being the one leading the kids in an activity so I will continue to work on trying to be confident. I would also like to try what we talked about in class about not getting frustrated if the kids arent all sitting still or if they interrupt the book. I will also try to not feel like I need to finish the book.

Planning for Implementation What center or places within the classroom will you be utilizing?: I will be using the rug where all the children sit to do circle time.

How will you get the experience started (ask your teacher for suggestions): When it comes time to do my activity, the other teachers and I will ask the children to clean up at their centers and come and find a spot to sit on the floor. Then I will tell them about how my mom read the book to me when I was their age, and then I will read the book to them. After that I will set out our activity, and then do our song.

Describe the steps for ending your activity: When I am done with my group activity I will turn the time over to either Carly or Suzan and they can either say something if they want or have the kids get ready to go outside. Then I will help the kids get their coats and line up to go outside.

Assessing and Reflecting: Describe and explain the strengths of your Activity Lesson Plan and implementation: This Activity Lesson plan didnt go as well as my other ones have but it was still okay. I feel that the book I brought to read was a good one for the children and they seemed to enjoy it. Most of them listened for the whole time and sat quietly. Next I did an activity where I let the children fish for their name. The kids really liked doing this and they all wanted to be the one to go next. Then I did a little song for each child and that was a bit crazy and I had lost most of them by that time.

Describe and explain the areas for improvements in your Activity Lesson Plan and implementation: I feel that even though the kids seemed to like my activity they ended up bored while we did the song. I think that next time if I were to find a song to sing with them I would find one that isnt so repetitive or long. Although some of them were entertained by it they seemed confused at what to do. Also, the children liked to go fishing for their fish with their name on it, but they ripped the fish up after the activity was over. If I were to do this activity again I would not take so much time making cute fish because they got destroyed. Sadly, the whole time I was incredibly nervous and didnt feel like I knew what I was doing and I think the only thing that will help me there is to keep practicing.

Describe and analyze the documentation that you collected (attach all documentation to this form): I did not collect any documentation.

Analyze progress and/or next steps in developing teaching skills and strategies: When it comes to circle time activities I need to work on finding things to do with the children that are developmentally appropriate. I feel like I lost their attention by the end and then the whole rest of the class they were full of energy. Although they did like the book, my other two activities didnt keep their attention as well as I had hoped and that is why I dont think that my lesson plan was completely DAP for them.

FHS 2600 Activity/Lesson Plan Evaluation Part 3: Teacher Feedback and Grade Student name: Brittany Drake Cooperating Teacher Name: Suzan and Carly Date Activity was Implemented: November 22, 2013 Feedback: Cooperating Teacher The children were engaged with the story at times it was ready so softly that I couldnt hear the story, you might want to read a little louder. Good story. At the beginning of the fishing activity the children werent sure of what to do, but as soon as you asked them to sit around the rug and called them individually they were engaged and seemed to enjoy getting their own name. Well done.
