CHDV 150 Introduction to Curriculum Small Group Activity Form

Length of Activity: 15-20Minutes Learning Objectives Child will be able to identify their names(Measure1) Child will be able to listen to animal sounds and imitate(Measure20) Child will be able to name their favorite foods(Measure24)

Material/Equipment Needed: Markers Colored Paper Plastic Animals Tape

Preparation (What do you need to do beforehand?): Make sure all the materials are sanitary Set up the activity

Procedures (step by step) Be Specific *Beginning (How will I introduce activity?) I will give a warning during the large group activity that the Put up the pickle activity will be next I will introduce this activity in the beginning of class I will introduce this activity by talking about pickles, snacks, and names and asking open-ended questions. I will draw on paper with my name on it I will place them on the childs favorite animal I will read a book called Are You My Mother? By Philip D. Eastman. Afterwards I will allow few of them to start the activity *Middle: (How will I support/enhance/scaffold?) The person reading your lesson plan should be able to identify what you are saying or doing to support your stated learning objectives. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.

As the children begin to use the materials I will support them by making sure they understand how to use them in this activity. The child will be able to create a favorite animal they are interested in. They will be varies textures that the child can use. I will place their name on the animal they create. I will tell them, You can use any material on this table to create your animal. I will support the child by asking, Can you help me spell your name? I will identify the childs animal by their own name. I will imitate the childs animal they create. I will ask the child, Can you tell me what sound your animal makes? I will ask the child, What type of food does your animal eat? I will support the child that does not know what type of food their animal eats by suggesting foods. I will ask the child, What is your favorite food to eat? When a child needs individual help with imitation I would say, Would you like me to help you make sounds?, lets do it together. if the child needs help identifying their name. I will ask before assisting, Would you like me to help you? I will ask the child to work together in making the animal sounds with their claasmates.

*End: (How will I bring this activity to a conclusion and transition to the next activity? Be very specific in how you will transition the children.) I will give the children a 5 minute warning, so they know the activity is coming to an end. I will ask them to share what they thought about the activity I will ask for feedback about the activity, like if they enjoyed themselves I will ask the children to help clean up I will ask the child to make shrink real small like a pickle and walk to the next activity The child will go to discovery center after this activity

Throughout the day/week, what opportunities will the children have to reflect back on this activity? During the day the child will be able to reflect on the activity at their own will while in the science

center. I will have typed words in the next activity in the social center area. When the child enters the classroom, they will see pictures of themselves doing the activity. I will ask

them Do you remember, we named the jar after you?
