idea of the introduction in They Say/ I Say is that the book offers model templates designed to help you successfully enter the world of academic thinking and writing (2). The templates can be helpful to structure and generate writing. The they say/I say template is used to engage the writer with other peoples views. By using the template you are either agreeing or arguing with the other person. The templates used in this book represent crucial moves to state a widely held belief. The most important template is the they say/ I say because expresses my ideas, but also the response of a different view. We make arguments because we get provoked by saying or doing something toward us. [The] I say moment should always be a response to the arguments of others (4). This template forms a conversation with other views and new ideas. Many use this format to think critically and show controversy. The template not only can be used for agreeing or disagreeing but also both agreeing and disagreeing with an argument at the same time. [This] presents a more complicated argument, while containingon the one hand/ on the other hand framework(9). The template helps you expand your thinking on an ongoing issue. Templates do not change the content of what you say, but formats it differently. Templates do not stifle creativity it expands it to structure it in a better way.
