Blanca Villegas Individual Cover Letter November 20, 2013

Welcome to my e-portfolio! First of all, I appreciate that youre taking your time to view my portfolio. Thank you very much. Now, this part will be about my English 1010 class and my improvements. It will include an assignment to show what Ive learned with my experiences at Salt Lake Community College. From the beginning to the end of the semester, in English 1010, I saw a lot of improvement in my assignments. I learned many things such as how to identify a thesis and clearly state a thesis; to engage my audience right from the start; to have very descriptive detail; to have better organized paragraphs connecting the introduction, body and conclusion; how to arrange a MLA works cite page accurately; and last but not least, I learned the exact difference between a summarizing and paraphrasing. I learned all my skills from the first assignment of the semester to the last. Every single assignment helped me improved in some kind of way. Some assignments impacted my writing more than others: I discovered many things from the reflective narrative I wrote like identifying a thesis, how to engage an audience and to use detail to add life and emotions to my words. Working on the annotated bibliography, I learned more of MLA style and how to organize a works cited page correctly. Having to write a summary in English 1010 for the Issue Exploration Project, I learned how to write a summary differently from a paraphrase. From our class activities in English 1250, I was able to identify the way that works best for me to start critical thinking.

I chose my reflective narrative as my signature assignment to show how much Ive learned and my writing skills. I believe it is one of my best works I have done. In my reflective narrative, I had a good thesis, I engaged my audience well, and I had details throughout my whole paper. I wanted to show my reflective paper because it shows a lot of progress. This is the paper that shows most of the things I learned in English 1010. I value this paper since I did so well on it. It has everything I didnt think I could do and I received a better grade I thought I would get. It shows I learned and have more potential than I believed to have. It is very easily seen how English 1010 has helped me with my other classes. I have already used all my writing skills and techniques to accomplish a couple of writing assignment for my Psychology class. Learning how to engage an audience and what writing style to use depending on my audience helped me get a good grade on my Psychology class. Everything I learned in English 1010 has helped and will helped with the rest of the class Im going to have to take to receive my Associate in Science. Im so glad I took English 1010, as well as English 1250. Not only did I have the opportunity to learn and master a higher level of writing, but I gained confidence in my writing I never had before. This

will not only help me with the rest of my classes at SLCC, but it will help me at University of Utah and the rest of my career. I appreciate all the skills, techniques, and everything that improved my writing. I, also, value the fact that all the things my gen-ed classes have taught me so far can be used in other gen-ed classes besides the one it was learned in. Everything I have learned at Salt Lake Community College will help me with the rest of my classes in college, to achieve my carrier, and in real life situation outside college.
