Technology today, is in essence both a response to societal needs and also by creating problems with society-wide implications. As described in the readings it brings social issues as quality of life concerns, overuse and misuse of technology, cyberbullying, sexting, risks with other social networking sites and malicious attacks on computers themselves. (Ch.1 Educational theory in Context, pg.13, 1). Schools are rapidly recognizing that these problems can leave a personal and financial hole. These issues are now a required part of the curriculum for both students and professionals. As a part of my personal framework of integrity, I plan on having an ongoing educational program which my students will use to be aware of the social concerns and negative impact technology may bring if not used properly. Another impact in technology is the educational issues that have special implications for how education is being taught and learned today. One issue is the lack of funding for technology itself. Due to the Great Recession of 2009, the United States have decreased educational funding, which in turn means that there is less funding for the training of professionals, software and hard ware for the school. Educational Theorist, John Dewey believed that, students should be actively involved in real-life tasks and challenges.(Brewer 2) Another issue is the pressure of teacher and student accountability for quality and progress. By the NO Child Left Behind act, (NCLB) in 2001, schools must now meet an adequate yearly progress. Instead of focusing in more innovative teaching strategies, the spotlight has been placed on high-stakes tests on content standards. Thirdly, a heavy reliance on distance education has put a

strain on education as well. Virtual schools are rising in popularity, and have access to many quality courses and degrees. But one key issue is that not every student is capable of accomplishing these special skills and drops out more frequently than students in physical schools; thus entering the digital divide. The Digital Divide is a cultural and equality issue, coined by Lloyd Morrisett (Hoffman & Novak, 1998,3), the former President of the Markle Foundation. A Digital Divide originally referred to the inconsistency of resources among certain socioeconomic groups, which leads into racial and gender equity within not only technology, but education itself. Technology use is still dominated by most males in selective ethnic groups, as stated in the text, females, African Americans and Hispanic minorities use computers less and enter careers in math, science, and technology areas at lower rates. (Introduction and background on integrating technology in education, p.18,4) Lower use of technology leads to lower entrance into technical schools. Even if computers are introduced, students misuse the technology. Jean Piaget theory believes that, the developing child builds cognitive structures, schemas to understand and respond to the physical environment.(Brewer,5) With my role as an educator, my integrity to myself and students would be to instill a curriculum that would show the positive and negative effects of technology use.

Finally, legal and technical issues arise quite prevalently. A myriad of problems float around the internet such as hacking, firewalls, cybercheating and software piracy. To address all of these issues, the educator must create and inform the students about the class and schools Acceptable Use Policies. This policy is to educate and protect students. I pledge as a teachers candidate to always inform and educate my future students to understand and respect technology in every shape and form it comes by.
