Lesson One Pre-assessment: Student completed an I Am Ready worksheet to evaluate each students prior knowledge of subtraction. This worksheet covers topics the students have learned in prior grades including rounding, place value, and subtraction of single digit numbers. Lauren Mac was ranked high due to high MAP test scores. She exemplified her high academic level in this pre-assessment. She also was able to recall knowledge of place value, rounding to the nearest tens and hundreds and also basic subtraction of one digit numbers. Kevin was selected as a student on a middle level due to MAP test scores. On this assessment, Kevin was able to recall how to subtract one

digit numbers but he struggled with estimation of the place values of tens and hundreds. Lucas was selected as a low student due to MAP test scores and past records including an EIP. However, Lucas showed middle-high scores on this pre-assessment. Lucas showed skills in rounding and estimating. He did struggle with single digit subtraction. Post assessment: Students will complete a homework page from My Math workbook that covers subtraction facts from 1 to 18. This is a review and an assignment to help students be able to subtract fluently. (photos attached) Lauren Mac scored a 99 on this assignment, which was 99 correct out of 100. Lauren Mac shows great fluency in subtraction but made a simple error. She was determined to be the first student completed and she rushed through her work and missed on simple problem. Kevin scored a 100 on this assignment. Kevin did extremely well and showed his knowledge of subtracting. There is a concern with fluency. Kevin showed signs of using his fingers to subtract and also was one of the last students completed. Lucas scored a 91 on this assignment. He simply did not finish six problems due to frustration. He had plenty of time to complete but decided to quit during the assignment.

Lesson Two Pre-assessment: There was a problem on the board. The students solved the problem and wrote the answer on their morning work worksheet. The teacher is looking to notice if the students can use clue words like about or almost to determine where to estimate before subtracting. Lauren Mac scored the highest on the pre-assessment problem. Lauren Mac was able to identify the word about and its connection to rounding to solve the word problem. Lauren Mac also subtracted correctly to discover the correct answer.

Kevin was a low student in the pre-assessment. He was able to subtract the two digit problem correctly but did not round or estimate. He was asked what he thought about meant in the problem; he was confused and unable to make the connection with estimating before subtracting. Lucas was a medium student during this pre-assessment activity by scoring. Lucas did acknowledge that he needed to estimate before subtracting. He did very well in subtracting however he did not estimate correctly. This caused him to only receive particle credit. Post Assessment: Students will be given a Check My Progress worksheet to evaluate their perception of new material. This worksheet evaluates the students on understanding place value. Understanding place value is important for students to understand to assist them in estimating correctly. (attached) Lauren Mac scored a 100 on this summative assessment. Lauren Mac showed understanding of place value. Kevin scored low with an 81/C on this assessment. He struggled with the ability to write numbers in expanded form and word form. This can cause a problem when rounded and confusion of what place to round the set number. Kevin also incorrectly ordered the numbers in greatest to least value. This also might cause a mix up when estimating in subtraction. Lucas scored an 88/B on this post assessment. Lucas struggled with writing a set number into standard form. He was not able to recognize the word thousand. This could cause an issue when rounded in a word problem. Lucas also did not follow directions on writing 1,935 into expanded form. He most likely rushed through this assignment to make these careless mistakes.

Students will complete homework pages 157-158 from MyMath Books (formative). Homework pages 157-158 consist of 10 problems for the students to use base-ten cubes models to subtract two set numbers. Lauren Mac scored a 100 on her homework pages. Lauren Mac was able to use baseten models to subtract. This shows knowledge of base-ten models and how to subtract a set number from the large model. Kevin scored an 80 on this homework assessment. Kevin was able to subtract but did not regroup correctly. When given a problem vertically, he can solve it but he cannot use base-ten blocks to regroup and subtract. Lucas scored a 60 on this homework assessment. He was not able to use the models to subtract. Lucas was not able to recognize the larger number displayed with base-

ten blocks. This shows that Lucas is not aware place value using base-ten blocks. Also Lucas was not able to regroup.

Lesson Four Pre-assessment: A teacher made worksheet used for morning work. The worksheet contains addition problems and simple subtraction problems. This is a review on how to use mental math to answer simple math problems. Lauran Mac scored a 95 on this worksheet. Lauren did very well and was able to make the connection between addition and subtraction. Lauran Mac also showed the steps in checking her work. This is advance for her age. Kevin scored a 65 on this worksheet. Kevin was one of the lower students due to the fact that he struggled with making the connection

between addition and subtraction. He did rush through the worksheet and missed simple subtraction problems. Lucas scored a 90 on this worksheet. Lucas made some careless errors when subtracting. He was able to make the connection and check his work using inverse operations. Post Assessment: Homework pages 163-164. The homework pages will be review by the teacher and placed into three categories; first category is much needed assistance with reteaching, the second category is needs some extra help and the last category is ready to move forward. The homework pages contain problems using inverse operations to solve simple subtraction problems. Lauren Mac scored in the needs some extra help category. Lauren Mac started off very well in the pre-assessment, which shows she does have some knowledge of the subject. However she struggled with the checking her work to make sure she was correctly adding and subtracting. Kevin scored in the ready to move forward category. Kevin did very well and showed a lot of grow from the pre-assessment till now. He will be able to continue to learn and use this knowledge to help. Lucas scored in the needs some extra help category. Lucas rushed through his work to keep up with the other students even though he is provided extra time according to his EIP. Lucas will benefit with some extra help to reassure his confidence level.
