RULE FOR SLINGING WHEN USING TWO SLINGS IS:


ANGLE BETWEEN SLINGS MUST NEVER exceed 90 DEGREES

SAME RULE STANDS FOR FOUR LEGGED SLINGS IN THAT THE ANGLE BETWEEN SLINGS MUST NOT EXCEED 90 DEGREES. IN THIS CASE HOWEVER THE BRIDLE ASSEMBLY WILL HAVE TO BE RATED FOR THE FULL WEIGHT OF THE LOAD. THIS WILL NORMALLY BE MARKED ON THE RING AT THE TOP

NEVER HIT OR FORCE EYE OF SLING DOWNWARDS WHEN SLINGING TUBULARS. SLINGS WILL FIND THEIR OWN BITE YOU WILL NOT INCREASE THE GRIP BY FORCING EYE DOWN ALL YOU WILL SUCCEED IN DOING IS INCREASING ANGLE WHICH AS WE KNOW INCREASES LOAD IMPOSED ON SLING

WHEN SLINGING TUBULARS MAKE SURE SLINGS ARE CHOKED IN THE SAME DIRECTION. IF YOU DO NOT, THEN LOAD WILL TWIST.

SLINGS SHOULD BE EQUAL DISTANCE FROM EACH END ENSURE ANGLE DOES NOT EXCEED 90 DEGREES HOWEVER

BASKET HITCH CAN BE USED TO LIFT FRAGILE BOXES AS SLINGS WILL NOT CRUSH THE LOAD WHEN USING BASKET HITCH TAKE GREAT CARE LOAD DOES NOT SLIP

MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO LOOSE ITEMS ON THE LOAD PRIOR TO MAKING ANY LIFT

LOOK ALL ROUND LOAD CAREFULLY

POSITION TIP OF BOOM DIRECTLY OVER LOAD

THIS WILL ENSURE LOAD PICKS UP CLEANLY WITHOUT SWINGING

IF TIP OF BOOM IS NOT DIRECTLY OVER LOAD THEN IT MAY SWING AND HIT PEOPLE OR PLANT CAUSING INJURY OR DAMAGE.

MAKE SURE SLINGS AND SHACKLES ARE NOT TWISTED

IF YOU LIFT A LOAD WITH TWISTED SLINGS YOU ARE LIKELY TO CAUSE DAMAGE OR EVEN CAUSE THE EQUIPMENT TO FAIL DURING THE LIFT

ENSURE LOAD IS LEVEL BEFORE MAKING LIFT THIS MAY MEAN SECURING LOOSE EQUIPMENT IN HALF HEIGHTS AND CONTAINERS SO IT WILL NOT MOVE DURING THE LIFT. ALL LOADS SHOULD BE LIFTED 2 - 3 ABOVE THE DECK AND CHECKED TO SEE THEY ARE LEVEL BEFORE CONTINUING WITH THE LIFT

ALWAYS CHECK INSPECTION PLATE ON CONTAINERS AND HALF HEIGHTS TO ENSURE TEST DATE STAMP IS CURRENT.

CONTAINER DOORS MUST BE FIRMLY SECURED BEFORE MAKING LIFT. Collect staff tidy inside the container

HALF HEIGHTS MUST NOT HAVE ITEMS OVERHANGING THE EDGES

THESE MAY HAVE TO BE SLUNG INDIVIDUALLY

GAS BOTTLES MUST ALWAYS BE MOVED IN A CERTIFIED BOTTLE CARRIER. DO NOT MIX DIFFERENT TYPES OF GAS BOTTLES (Chemical reaction may happen) NEVER MOVE A GAS BOTTLE USING SLINGS. VALVES SHOULD BE TURNED OFF AND VALVE PROTECTOR CAPS SHOULD BE FITTED

CERTAIN ITEMS OF PLANT MAY HAVE DEDICATED LIFTING POINTS FOR USE WITH EYE BOLTS.

ALWAYS USE DEDICATED LIFTING POINTS IF FITTED AS THEY ARE POSITIONED TO ENSURE STRAIGHT LIFT
BEARINGS AND SHAFTS SHOULD BE PROTECTED FROM DAMAGE USING WOOD OR RAGS.

IF THERE IS NO DEDICATED LIFTING POINT THEN YOU WILL HAVE TO CONSIDER WHERE THE CENTRE OF GRAVITY OF THE LOAD IS BEFORE YOU POSITIONS THE SLINGS REMEMBER THIS MAY NOT BE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LOAD

WHERE EVER POSSIBLE BARRELS SHOULD ONLY BE LIFTED USING DEDICATED BARREL LIFTING EQUIPMENT

WHEN USING PIPE HOOKS MAKE SURE YOUR FINGERS WILL NOT BE CAUGHT WHEN LOAD IS LIFTED

NEVER ATTACH TAGLINE TO SLING OR HOOK WHEN USING PIPE HOOKS AS YOU COULD PULL HOOK OUT CAUSING LOAD TO FALL. TAGLINE SHOULD BE ATTACHED DIRECTLY TO THE LOAD

NEVER TAKE LOADS OVER PERSONNEL MOVE THE PERSONNEL OR TAKE THE LOAD ROUND THEM THE SAME APPLIES TO YOURSELF NEVER GO UNDER SUSPENDED LOADS

BE AWARE OF PINCH POINTS

NEVER WRAP TAGLINE ROUND YOUR HANDS OR BODY IF ANYTHING HAPPENS YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO GET FREE QUICKLY ENOUGH AND COULD BE BADLY INJURED OR WORSE TAGLINES SHOULD BE HELD NORMALLY

BE AWARE OF FIXED OBSTACLE SUCH AS STAIRS, VENTS OR THE DERRICK STRUCTURE ITSELF
