Course Description: This course is designed to integrate literature, composition, research, critical thinking, technology, and study skills and is intended to coordinate with the Wisconsin Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science and Technical Subjects. Course Objectives: Students will: 1. Explain how online learning differs from face to face learning. 2. Respond to discussion board posts with at least one positive comment and one suggestion or question. 3. View book trailers and post critique on discussion board with at least one positive comment and one suggestion or question. 4. List the steps to creating a book trailer. 5. Create two book trailers of up to 2.30 seconds each using Animoto, Power Point, and PhotoStory. 6. Cite sources used for book trailer graphics using citations worksheet. 7. Critique book trailer using book trailer rubric and post a reflection of own book trailers with a 300 word response. General Rules: Be on time, be prepared, be respectful and be responsible. Preparation for Class: Students are required to have read two books of their choosing, fiction or nonfiction, before class begins. See attached list for book recommendations. Expectations for class: Students will complete all assignments on time. Students will have read their two books before class begins. Students will participate in discussions using complete sentences and the students best manners. Students will email Ms. Eisner if they have any questions about the units or homework. Students may also talk to classroom teacher. If a student does NOT talk to Ms. Eisner or his classroom teacher and is late turning in an assignment, he will lose points. Earned Consequences: Taking a class online is a privilege but it will not be easier than your face-to-face classes. Students who fail to turn in weekly assignments, or who demonstrate inappropriate language on discussion boards will be removed from the class. Grades will be assigned as follows: A = 90% 100% B = 80% - 89% C= 70% - 79% D = 60% - 69% F = 59 % and below Late Assignments: One grade will be deducted for assignments received 1 day late. If it is turned in two days late students will receive credit. 0 points will be given any day after that and students classroom teacher will be contacted. Makeup Policy: Students will have one day for each day of excused absence to make up work. Your teacher will notify me if you will be absent from school for an extended period of time. Late withdrawal policy: Students may withdraw from the class within the first four weeks of the semester. Work Return Policy: Discussion board posts, assignments, and book trailers will be graded within one week after being posted and turned in. Students with Disabilities (other than our being Deaf ): Your teacher will have shared your IEP with me prior to beginning the class. You may need to message me and remind me of any challenges you may be having so that we can make proper accommodations. Do NOT wait until the night before an assignment is due to tell me you are having difficulties.
Academic Honesty: All work that you turn in must be original unless you are quoting or paraphrasing another person. All book trailers must be original. You may not turn in another persons book trailer and call it your own. Incomplete Work Policy: Students who choose not to complete work for this class will not receive credit for the class. This class counts toward your graduation requirements. If you do not complete the class you will have to take another class or you may not graduate. Emergency Statement and Information: Our online class will follow your WSD class. If classes are cancelled at school, they are also cancelled online and will resume on your first day back at school.
