Classroom Management Philosophy: My philosophy is to create a safe and encouraging environment where my students are inspired and empowered

to learn. I believe that if students are in a safe environment where they feel valued and appreciated, real learning can take place the assigned learning, as well as learning outside of the classroom. My classroom management style doesnt necessarily rely on punishing behavior problems but is a combination of setting the tone in a class, preventing behavior problems with interesting and engaging curriculums and effectively including all students in the classroom so that their needs are met. Having the right environment for all students to learn is my major goal of implementing good classroom management--without it the students will not be able to learn. Classroom Rules: Be positiveattitude is a powerful tool! Be productiveuse class time effectively, listen, and follow directions Be politeraise your hand, dont blurt, stay in your seat, etc. Be preparedcome to class with necessary supplies and completed assignments Be respectfulalways be kind to others

I think that its important for students to know a few simple rules in order to make the classroom function more efficiently to better serve the students. I have five major areas that I think should be addressed with the students. They must be positive, productive, polite, prepared and respectful at all times. These basic rules are established by me, but I also believe that the students should create some of their own rules. Allowing students to create their own expectations will help them be more motivated to follow them. Consequences of Not Following Class Rules: First Offense: Verbal Warning Second Offense: Student-Teacher Conference and student chosen consequence Third Offense: Student-Teacher Conference and teacher chose consequence Fourth Offense: Parent Notification Fifth Offense: Student-Teacher-Principal Conference School Management Plan would be utilized and internalized into the consequences as well.

I personally am not fond of the idea of consequences but understand that they can be effective and necessary at times in the classroom. This is a very basic guideline for how consequences will work in my class. I, however, will assess the consequence based on what happened. I am a huge proponent of students deciding what their consequences should be if

they helped establish some of the classroom rules. I hope that any consequences will help my students learn to take responsibility for their actions.

Classroom Management and Organization I believe that classroom management has the largest effect on student achievement. Strong teacher-student relationships provide an essential foundation for effective classroom management. Healthy teacher-student relationships are built upon the careful establishment of classroom rules, procedures, consequences, and expectation. Management and Organization:

Clear classroom rules, procedures, and consequences will be discussed and posted in the front of the classroom on the first day of school. A seating chart will be established in order to prevent discipline/participation problems before they occur. The seating chart will be subject to change based on behavior and participation; a new seating chart will occur every marking period. Lesson plans will be thorough and completed in advance in order to create smooth classroom transitions. Lessons will also be designed to enhance learning and avoid boredom by using a variety of learning methods, activities, and materials. The entire day will be used efficiently. This includes transitions to and from specials, recess and lunch times. All assignments, activities, quizzes, and tests will be designed to meet the objectives of the class and will have educational intent. Evaluation methods will vary according to the objectives being covered and the individual needs found within the classroom.

Expectations Expectations of the teacher and student should be clearly defined from the start of the school year. I believe these expectations are important to provide the teacher with a set of guidelines to keep themselves accountable and the students should know what the teacher is expecting of them from the very beginning. Expectations of the teacher:

The teacher will be well prepared for the daily lessons and activities. The teacher will convey enthusiasm for the subject matter. The teacher will remain professionally active in order to improve, learn, and stay current on the latest developments in their field. The teacher will help create a classroom environment that is conducive to optimal learning. The teacher will be available for students and parents both in and out of the classroom. The teacher will respect the needs of the students and integrate their individuality into the planning for the classroom.

Expectations of the Students:

Students will come to class every day with a positive attitude, ready for the day. Students will turn in all assignments. Homework will be assigned as needed and will typically be due the next day. Students will not disrupt another students ability to learn. Students will treat school staff, visitors and students with respect at all times. Students are expected to put forth their best efforts and abilities to complete assignments and tests. Students will raise their hand in class, unless otherwise specified by the teacher. Students will walk quietly in the hallways at all times.

Classroom Procedures Establishing routines and procedures in the classroom is crucial for students to know whats expected of them and how to do certain things without teacher instructions. I believe there should be a routine or procedure for almost everything in the classroom and the teacher will need to be vigilant about establishing these procedures in the first month of school. Having these predictable patterns in place allows teachers to spend more time in meaningful instruction instead of transitions and questions. Morning Procedures: Put backpacks/coats in locker Make lunch choice and put cold lunches (if applicable) in the lunch basket Enter room and get breakfast Read instructions from the morning PowerPoint Go to your assigned desk and prepare for the day (sharpen pencil, etc. ) Complete any assignments/directions the PowerPoint states

Hallway Procedures: All students will line up quietly at the door as directed by the teacher or any other staff Students will walk at a reasonable pace and quietly throughout the halls so they are not disrupting any other classrooms Students will enter whatever room they are going to in a respectful and thoughtful manner Lesson Procedure: During the lesson, students are expected to pay attention and participating in discussion. If a student needs to sharpen their pencil, they can place their pencil in the sad pencils bin and take a sharpened pencil from the happy pencils bin. Students will be expected to keep their heads up and their eyes open o Students will remain in their seats during the lesson at all times unless instructed otherwise o Students are expected to follow directions about lessons and assignments as instructed. A student needing to use the restroom should raise their hand and show the teacher the bathroom signal. o Students granted permission will sign out on the clipboard by the door and leave o Students that are asked to wait by the teacher are expected to do so unless it is an absolute emergency, then they may leave without explanation

Attention Getting Procedure: To get whole class attention I will do the following: o Clap On, Clap Off o Snap On, Snap Off o Give Me Five **Students will be given expectations about their response to my attention getters on the first day of school Procedure for Getting Help from the Teacher: Raise your hand quietly Wait for a response from the teacher If the teacher gives the one minute symbol, the student should lower their hand and wait for the teacher to come over. End of Day Procedures: Students will record what was taught and put homework assignments in their planners Students will clean off their desks and put away any classroom materials Students will be called on to go get their backpacks out of their lockers After getting their backpack and packing it up, students may stack their chairs on the carpet area Students may line up at door for a hug, high five or handshake from the teacher as the bell is ringing
