OBJECTIVE: 2.21- The student will solve problems by completing


numerical sentences involving the basic facts for addition and subtraction. The student will create story problems, using the numerical sentences.

PROCEDURE ENGAGE Teacher: Reviews homework from the night before, which was a handout that reviewed the skills and understanding of standard 2.21 Activates students prior knowledge with brief discussion on number sentences Clarifies any confusion or re-teach concepts as needed based on review. o o

MATERIALS NEEDED
SMART NB Quiz game Teacher created handout or Blank Paper for each student for story problem writing practice.

EXPLORE/EXPLAIN Students will explore understanding of the standard through participation in the teacher created SMART NOTEBOOK Interactive Quiz Game ASSESSMENTS Pre-Assessment Homework review Informal Formative Assessment SMART NB Quiz game. Story Problem write-up activity

EXPLORE/EXTEND The last page on the Interactive Quiz Game requires all students to individually create two written story problems using addition and subtraction number sentences. Students will choose from one of several choices for both addition and subtraction. Students will create and write story problems for both addition and subtraction using the teacher created handout.

EVALUATE

Students will share their story problems and turn in completed handout.
