(1.) Greetings Parents and Guardians,

October 20,2013

This year has been one of the greatest, and I want to personally thank you and your children for making it a fantastic and rewarding year. Your second graders have gained independence and have increased their hunger for learning. This is just a letter to inform you of whats been going on in your childrens second grade class. This months character trait that we have been discussing on a daily basis has been caring. As a teacher we want our students to be caring towards one another, as well as to teachers and faculty members. We are all a family, and to make our time together valuable and rewarding we must be sure to show care towards one another whenever an opportunity presents itself. In reading we have been reading the novel written by Cam Jansen entitled The Mystery of the Babe Ruth Baseball. This novel is about a famous baseball that is very valuable and used by Babe Ruth that goes missing. The students have been completing various activities, and group discussions concerning the novel. In writing the students have been responsible for writing a weekly short write, entailing who they believe is responsible for stealing the ball in the novel The Mystery of the Babe Ruth Baseball. We have also began incorporating our character traits lessons into our weekly writing, as we write short stories, or paragraphs weekly telling of how we have shown care to a friend, classmate, or teacher. The students are working very hard, and have really been striving to show every person they come in contact with care. In Mathematics we have been working on place value, and recognizing the value of numbers. In Social Studies we have been discussing the history and foundation of our state, South Carolina.

In Science we have been discussing the attraction of magnets, and how magnets are used throughout our communities. The students have really enjoyed learning how magnets work, and have really enjoyed finding things in our classroom, and our school campus that magnets are attracted to. I want to encourage each of you to continue working diligently on those weekly spelling words. I also want to thank each of you for your support, and communication in the educating of your child. Together we will prepare them for upcoming grades, and will secure a strong foundation for their schooling career. Please feel free to give me call, or to send me an email inquiring about your childs academic performance. I would love to hear from each of you. Below you will find a chart that includes the behavior and progress of your child in my class. Please review the chart, and sign the detachable slip below. Once again thank you! I appreciate all that you do. I hope to hear from each of you in the near future. With warm regards, Ms. Aye Email: jasmine.aye@lander.edu Phone: 864-555-5555

The classes have been learning the foundation of our state, South Carolina, and the history of its foundation. We will be taking a trip to the State House in Columbia March 20, 2013. This trip would be beneficial to all students. The trip will provide a sense of pride and knowledge about the state that the students reside in. 2.) (E-Mail to speech therapist at Merywood Elementary) Good morning Mrs. Kindrer, Im e-mailing you because Im observing a delay in one of my students speech. She has a difficult time pronouncing words, as well as speaking clearly. Can we meet at a time that you are free to discuss symptoms of children with speech impairments? Im really eager to gain more knowledge and information concerning this topic. I want to observe my student effectively, so Im asking for some great resources and suggestions. Please get back to me as soon as possible. With Warm Regards Ms. Aye

3.) (E-Mail to schools Spanish translator) Mr.Rodriguez, I will be holding a parent conference this upcoming week requested by the parents of my student, Carmen Rodriguez. Her parents speak broken English and have requested an English-Spanish translator for the conference. Will you be available? If you are I would be grateful for your presence and time. Please get back to me as soon as possible, so that I will be able to contact the parents. Thank you so much! Have a wonderful day. With Warm Regards Ms. Aye

A.) In part A, I gave multiple examples of ways that I would communicate with parents if I were in the classroom. I created newsletters that would go out throughout the semester that would give parents insight concerning what we are doing throughout the semester. The newsletters told parents what students would be reading and what assignments would be coming up. The newsletter also allowed parents to reflect on the behavior of their child, and provided way for parents to communicate and ask questions. The parent communication also allowed parents to communicate concerning parent teacher conferences. B.) During the collaboration with colleagues portion includes e-mail messages that would be sent to teachers throughout the semester about upcoming events. There is also a field trip included that gives details as to a field trip that would be coming up in the future. There are e- mails to fellow teachers throughout the school that are asked to attend conferences to help translate, as well as helping students with disabilities or impairments. Communication between colleagues is very important. Teachers must work together throughout the school to ensure that students are prepared for upcoming grades. The saying It takes a village to raise a child, applies to this portion of the teacher work sample.
