Abstract Background The spectrum and prevalence of gastrointestinal diseases which require endoscopy examination can vary depending on several factors such as race, socio-economic, and gender. This spectrum has never been reported in Palembang. Objective To report the profile cases of Pediatric Endoscopy in the Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Methods We retrospectively reviewed all endoscopies performed at the Mohammad Hoesin Hospital from March 2012 March 2013. The tools that used in this hospital are Fujinon CC-500, Scope Olympus TJF type 1500. During procedure all patients were lightly sedated with midazolam and pethidine. Results There were 55 patient who underwent endoscopy in Pediatric Endoscopy Unit. The male: female ratio was 6:5. The majority of cases were between 1-15 years of age and the mean age was 4 years old. In 40 (73%) cases of gastroscopy was perfomed, and 15 (27%) cases of colonoscopy. From gastroscopy 23 (57.5%) revealed gastritis, 8 (20.0%), ulcus pepticum, 4 (10.0%) varices esophagus, 5 (12,5%) normal. Colonoscopy was performed in 15 cases of lower GI bleeding. From colonoscopy 4 (26.7%) revealed colitis, 4 (26.7%) rectal polpys, 2 (13.3%) tumor, 2 (13.3%) proctitis, 3 (20.0%) normal. During and following endoscopy there was no significant complications. Conclusion The most cases in which an EGD (Esophagogastroduodenoscopy), was perfomed gastritis. In colonoscopy the most cases revealed colitis and rectal polyps.
