Room 42 News
points are due by the end of the 2nd card marking January 24, 2014. Math: We have moved on to our unit on decimals. We will be studying the following: place value, order and comparing decimals, decimal addition and subtraction, word problems using decimals. 3 accelerated math scans are due every week on Friday70% or higher. Science: We are currently doing several activities and investigations to learn about the Skeletal System of the human body. This is such a fun unit!!!! Social Studies: We are focusing on European Explorers exchanges and encounters with the Native Americans on the new land. This is called the Columbian Exchange. Language Arts/Writing: We are working on researching and writing an informative essay for our Social Studies European Explorers. We will also be starting a series of writing workshop sessions working on an informative writing piece of THEIR choice. Stay tuned! We are also studying verbs.

Week of 12/16
Spelling: Students are given 2 copies of their word study list on Monday. They have a word study test every Friday. Sorting their words at home throughout the week will help them with their test on Friday! Reading: We are currently reading The BFG using our reading skills and strategies. We are currently working on visualizing and using evidence from the text to summarize. We are also looking at several types of nonfiction texts and studying the FEATURES of these texts. 20 AR

Our busy week!

Dear Families, This upcoming week is rather busy! A note was sent home in the Friday folders on Friday 12/6 regarding our reproductive health unit. The 5th grade teachers will be teaching this on Tuesday and Wednesday. Our Christmas Party is this Thursday, December 19th. If you have volunteered your time to the party and that was arranged with Mrs. Ramirezyou may come at 12:30 to set up while the kids are at lunch. Thank you to all parents donating their time and/or supplies to make our celebration extra special! Thank you to Mrs. Ramirez for organizing our party. You all are the best!!! Last but not least, our field trip is this Friday, December 20th. If you are chaperoning the field trip, please be here by 9:00 a.m. sharp so we can board our bus and make it to the museum on time! We will return around 2:00 p.m.
