C. Prior Written Notice:

The school district must give you a written notice whenever the school district: (1) Proposes to initiate or change the identification, evaluation or educational placement of your child or the provision of a free appropriate public education (FAPE) to your child; or (2) Refuses to initiate or change the identification, evaluation or educational placement of your child or the provision of FAPE to your child. You and your child are entitled to procedural safeguards under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). A copy of the Notice of Procedural Safeguards can be obtained from your childs school or the WDE website at www.edu.wyoming.gov. It contains a list of resources for parents to obtain assistance in understanding the IDEA. Written Notice of Special Education Action. 34 C.F.R. 300.503 Description of the action the school district or public agency proposes or refuses to take: The IEP has decided to reevaluate Sable before the PAWs test of the 2013-2014 school. This was decided to see if she will qualify for the PAWs Alt test. Explanation of why the school district or public agency is proposing or refusing to take that action: The IEP has decided to reevaluate Sable because the last time she was evaluated was 2 years ago. Her MDE is due next year, and the IEP team has decided to push up the date of reevaluation to now. Description of each evaluation procedure, assessment, record, or report the school district or public agency used as a basis for the proposed or refused action: The assessments that Speech and Language will conducted include an articulation test, a language sample and classroom observation. The educational assessments that will be conducted include the WISC- R, and WCJ-R. There will also be a hearing screening done. Description of any other options the Team considered and the reasons why those choices were rejected: The IEP team discussed Sable taking PAWs with the current accommodation or taking the PAWs Alt. It was decided that we will keep the accommodations for PAWs for Sable. After the reevaluation, if Sable qualifies for the PAWs Alt, an amendment will be written for Sable to take the PAWs Alt. Description of other relevant factors: The PAWS assessment will be taken later this year. The MDE assessments to see if Sable is eligible for PAWS Alt. needs to be done prior to the school taking PAWs.
