Lesson Plan English I

T. Karol Chavarria Ch.

Objectives: 1. Students will be able to interpret and explain the grammatical rule of the simple present with the third person singular by analyzing the sentences of a story. 2. Students will be able to apply the simple present tense when constructing grammatically correct sentences about daily routines. Standards: 1.1 -1.2 4.1 Materials: Posters of each Chinese symbol and drawings of the sun, moon, water, rain, wood, human, eye, mother, goat, turtle, horse, and bird. Poster with sentences from the story. 5 pieces of paper. Scotch tape to paste the pictures and sentences. Dry erase marker and whiteboard. Procedure: 1. Before class starts put scotch tape on the pictures and place them in a table in the order of the sequence of events. 2. Tell the story of Simpy. While telling the story make use of mimics and drawing in order to make it comprehensible and review the vocabulary studied before. (2 minutes) 3. Paste the two columns of sentences on the board. Then, ask the students what they see different between sentences in column 1 and 2. Ask why they think the verb changes in some sentences. Construct with the students the grammar rules of the simple present tense (third person singular= add s to the verb / plural noun = let the verb in the base form) (3 minutes) 4. Ask students to stand up and do the mimics and sound of Simpy. (With the hands and making the sound of a snake ssssss). Then explain the activity: The teacher is going to

say a noun and show the picture that represents an action of daily routine (wake up / take a shower/ eat/ get dressed). The students will complete the sentence by saying the verb and doing the mimic of the snake if the rule of simple present tense third person applies. IF it does not apply they will just describe the action in the picture. Example: TeacherMary / Students- eats (doing the mimic and sound). (2 minutes)

5. Give a pieces of paper to the students. Ask them to draw their face and name. Collect them. Put the pieces of paper of the students and the pictures that represents an action of daily routine (wake up / take a shower/ eat/ get dressed) on the table facing down. (1 minute) 6. Ask 2 students to choose 2 papers (one white and one light blue) and create a sentence in simple present tense using the elements that are in the papers. Ask 2 students to choose 3 papers (two white and one light blue) and create a sentence in simple present tense using the elements that are in the papers. Ask 1 student to choose 3 papers (one white and two light blue) and create a sentence in simple present tense using the elements that are in the papers. (2 minutes). Assessment: By completing the sentences explained in point 4 and by constructing sentences explained in point 6, I will be able to monitor and assess if the student understands and masters the simple present tense.
