Full outline of Programme Idea

We are going to produce a story which will be based in Manchester. This soap will have a multi-stranded narrative to interest the audience. The three stories that are going to take place in this trailer are: 1. Steve is set to marry Claire, but her younger sister Sara falls pregnant after a one night stand with Steve. She tells Claire that she is pregnant but she doesnt tell her that it could be her fiancs baby. Sara thinks its unfair for her sister to marry someone that doesnt want to know his own child, so she shows up in the middle of the wedding, shouting I OBJECT! 2. Will, Andys brother, wins big on the lottery, and basically fritters his money away. He ends up borrowing money off Terry the Loan Shark, who gets angry when he doesnt pay up quickly. Someone opens fire, who shoots? Who dies? 3. Andy gets into a rough fight through involving himself in Wills business as he tries to help his brother.

Character names, profiles and relationships

William Will: He is portrayed as a rich (Scratch card win), rebellious, self-centred character. He uses drugs. He is Andys brother. Terry: Loan shark and Criminal, Terry is the antagonist of the soap. Hes owed money by Will, who is going through money problems. Claire: Shes portrayed as a classy character. She is in love with Steve and she is due to be wed. She used to be in a relationship with Ollie, who still has feelings for her. Steve: He is portrayed as the nice guy whose life revolves around Claire. He has a dark secret which he hides from Claire. Sara: Claires younger sister. She is obsessed with Steve after a one night drunken mistake. Could be secretly pregnant with Steves baby, which Ollie knows about. Andy: He is Wills brother, he leads a positive life but gets tangled up with negative people due to his brothers mistakes. Ollie: Still has feelings for Claire, tries to gate crash the wedding, because he knows about Saras pregnancy, and he doesnt want Claire making the biggest mistake of her life.

Key narrative ideas for first Episode / Series

Ideas of scenes shown in trailer: 1) Claires engagement ring being shown. 2) Claire and Sara having a discussion about her pregnancy in the caf. 3) Sara running to the church and shouting I OBJECT! 4) A fight scene between Andy and some of Terry the loan sharks men. 5) Will passed out drunk because he is going through problems. 6) Will being threatened by Terry about his money. 7) Terry threatening Will with a gun 8) Will standing at a grave, looking sad. (Could be Andy? Could be Terry the loan shark?) These scenes wont be in order so that it gives the audience more to wonder about.

Why the programme idea will work This programme idea will work because it shows a clear multi-stranded narrative, so that the audience will not be bored, and they have plenty to watch. It will also work for its sub-genre because the programme idea is dramatic and overly exaggerated and stereotypical which suits the subgenre of melodrama.

Where/When will it be broadcast and why It will be broadcast after 9pm so that it will not breach the watershed rules. Inappropriate content for children such as drug use, bad language etc., may be included in the programme, and this is why it will broadcast on TV after 9pm.
