Biomechanics Reflection Title of Experience/Artifact Date Experience Completed Artifact Description: I had the opportunity to assess the biomechanics

of throwing a softball overhand. I first broke it down to four different phases and then looked at the muscles that were being used in each phase. I was then able to make a checklist of the correct way to throw and the techniques to look for in each phase. Lastly, I made recommendations on what exercises and drills to do to improve the technique of throwing a softball overhand correctly. I have attached the biomechanics in their phases, the checklist, the proper form video, and the exercises and drills. Reflection on Alignments: Health Promotion Standard Alignment I believe my biomechanics project aligns with standard 8, Assessment. Assessment: The health promoter understands and uses formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social, and physical development of the client. I chose to align here because being able to break down an activity and exercise and assess what is correct and what is not correct is importable to the athlete or individual. I used different forms of assessment to proper see if one is throwing a softball overhand correctly. I assessed them by using a checklist and breaking each phase down to see what muscles are being used making sure they are preforming the tasl correctly. UW-Platteville School of Education Knowledge, Skill, Disposition Statement Alignment This artifact best aligns with KSD3d.: Provides feedback to clients: The candidate can provide timely, high quality feedback that is useful to the clients in their learning. I choose to align here because I was able to give the softball player feedback right away on what she should change in order to improve her throwing form. This will allow them to change their technique to perform the throw correctly and cause less injury. Secondary Alignments: KSD3.a. KSD3.b. KSD3.c. PERSONAL REFLECTION: What I learned about teaching/learning from this experience. From this experience I learned that it is easier to assess something if it is broken down into smaller easier pieces rather than trying to correct some mistakes by looking at the big picture. It is easier to understand why something is done the way it is when you break it down and see the Biomechanics project: throwing a softball overhand Fall 2013

biomechanics of that activity and then you can truly understand why it has to be done a certain way. I also learned that when assessing a client it is important to give feedback and ways for improvement. What I learned about myself as a prospective educator as a result of this experience/artifact: As a result of this experience I learned that as a prospective health promotion specialist I will need to take things step by step not only for my own benefit but also for the clients best interest. I also learned that assessment and feedback is very important for maximum learning. I will have to have a good way to assess the client so that I can have both formal and informal ways to assess and give feedback to the client.
