1.

Develop intellectual skills that are essential to all academic disciplines, foster interdisciplinary and integrative thinking, and provide depth of study within an academic major. Such skills include Reading, thinking, and inquiring in a critical fashion (using analysis, synthesis, evaluation, and application). Through my tenure at Wartburg College, I have taken a very broad array of courses. These courses have included everything from Astronomy to Western Civilization along with the IS courses of Code Breaking and Race, Class, and Gender of Brazil. Throughout all of these classes, along with my in major courses, there has been a large emphasis on reading external materials and reflecting on them while thinking critically. I have met this from not just one or two classes, but all of them. Communicating effectively in writing and speaking. Most classes that I have taken at Wartburg College have made presentations over miscellaneous topics a large portion of the class. Even though almost all courses required them, Oral Communications helped me hone my skills in speaking. One class that sticks out was my IS 201 course, it really taught me how to write many different types of papers. Using technology and information effectively. Being an education major, technology is something I have learned a lot about. Technology is something that has been a large part of schools today, so throughout my education courses I learned about new technologies and learned how to use them. Using and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data accurately. This seems like more of an obvious question being a math major. I have taken multiple mathematics courses that meet this requirement, but I have also used data accurately in many different courses. One example is my Educational Psychology course. We used pre and post tests to help us determine our teaching abilities. Understanding the questions examined, methods of inquiry used, and approaches to problem solving across a range of academic disciplines.

Questions and methods to solving those questions have been a focal point of my tenure at Wartburg College. All classes require questioning and answering in many different ways and not one class has been the same. Example Philosophy required all kinds of deep thinking while other math classes required step following. Demonstrating command of the subject matter, methods, and applications of an academic major. I have a 3.5 and also a math major that has been inducted into KME. Along with that, on the education side of things I have been inducted into KDP. Both of these are different honor societies within my major. 2. Develop personal, professional, and social convictions that inform ethical action, promote the common good, and enhance civic responsibility in local as well as global contexts. Such convictions include Practicing civil discourse and mutual respect in relationships with others. I have been living with no roommates, one roommate, three roommates, and currently 5 other roommates. Along with that fact I have been in my fair share of group projects and have participated and lead a service trip. All of these require relationships with others. Understanding the potential for both dynamic tension and harmony that may exist between the pursuit of personal benefit and the promotion of community well-being. In both of my service trip experiences, there has been agreeance and disagreeance. In both situations I was able to move the group to become more civil and help out not only our personal community but the one that we were there to help. Accepting responsibility for their decisions and actions, and basing these on ethical considerations. Decision making on ethics is something that I have used at Wartburg. A strong example is that I have only missed one course throughout my tenure at Wartburg,

and it was due to being ill. I realized the importance of class and why we are here at college. Promoting sustainable practices and informed stewardship of local and global resources. The service trips program really put the sustainability lifestyle in front of me. By having to track what I did really made me think about what I was doing and how I was disposing of it. Today I spend much more time and thought into my sustainability. 3. Become actively engaged in multiple communities and seek opportunities for continued growth. Such engagement includes Supporting communities through active citizenship, leadership, mentoring, and service experiences. I support the community in many different ways, but one thing really sticks out to me. When I became a sophomore in college here at Wartburg I began volunteering for Big Brothers Big Sisters. This shows my leadership and mentoring abilities. Collaborating effectively with others in the multiple communities to which they belong. Through my education focus at Wartburg I have seen all types of communities and know the difference between them. I have been a part of elementary communities, middle school, and high school communities. Also I am part of the Wartburg community and MCSP community. Enhancing their competency to thrive in an inclusive and multicultural world. I never found the time to make it out of the country, but I have made many relationships with different students from different countries. From group projects, work partners, and best friends that I hang out with outside of Wartburg. Developing a sense of purpose and vocation.

I came into Wartburg College as an undecided major, but now I know what I was meant to do. I am graduating to become a high school math teacher. I realized that I am meant to become a teacher and help students grow to their potnetial. Caring for and developing their physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and financial well-being. I have stayed physically active with help from the W facility. I have also taken a lot of my time taking advantage of the pathways center. I have learned a lot about myself and learned how to take care of myself if it is by talking with others or being able to build a resume. Participating in learning as a lifelong pursuit of growth and development. Learning is something that will forever be a part of my life. I believe because of Wartburgs emphasis on knowledge, I now make sure to focus a lot of my time on things worthwhile. Instead of always searching Facebook I know the importance of politics and being knowledgeable on current events. Along with that, I have learned how to do research and learn about topics that interest me. 4. The mathematics program helps students understand the structure of mathematics, demonstrate skills, solve problems, and apply mathematics in meaningful vocations and services. Students use computers on an NT network located near mathematics classrooms and have use of them both inside and outside of class. Students will develop a coherent and broad-based understanding of the mathematics discipline consistent with the current MAA recommendations. Through all of the different math courses that I have taken, I have began to understand how it fits into the world, no matter what the topic is. Math is all around us and is important in anything. No matter what you do after school, math or math reasoning is required of you. Students will be prepared for entry into mathematics professions such as actuarial scientist or applied mathematician, for graduate study, and for the professional and personal challenges of the discipline.

From both my math courses and education courses, I learned how to become the teacher I would like to become. I am prepared to become a high school math teacher and will be showing it over the next semester in my student teaching, along with the rest of my life. Students will appreciate mathematical knowledge and skills and be prepared to confront the ethical and societal issues associated with the mathematics profession. In the MA 461 course, I have learned and talked about mathematics more than I thought I ever would. I created a new appreciation for mathematics and prepared for what I need to do as a math teacher but yet understand what other mathematicians will be doing with their knowledge. Students will be prepared to apply their knowledge of mathematics and computer technology to specific problems and produce solutions. I have learned a lot about mathematics and computer science. From being the SI I have mastered the Vensim program. Along with that, I took two different computer science courses and am comfortable using technology to solve mathematical problems. After graduation, students who have completed the mathematics major and have sought employment will be employed in a math related field or enrolled in graduate school. I am planning after graduation to search for a secondary teaching job focusing in mathematics. Hopefully I will already have a job before I even get to graduation. I have learned about the job search process from pathways and multiple classes.
