SCIENCE A GOOD SERVANT OR A BAD MASTER

INTRODUCTION: Science is a blessing. There are many wonders of science. Science has been making great strides particularly for the last 5 or 6 decades. Man has worked miracles in the field of science and there seems to be nothing that he cannot achieve. Science has sweetened our life! Science has shortened the world! Science has lengthened our life! Science has broadened our knowledge!

ELECTRONICS: The most important recent inventions have been in the field of electronics and computers. Think of the comforts given by science. Electric lamps, fans, air-conditioners, refrigerators, geyser , vaccum cleaner mixies , grinders, washing machine etc. make our life comfortable . The radio , television and cinema entertain us. MEDICINE: Science has given eyes to the blind, ears to the deaf and limbs to the crippled . Vaccination and inoculation prevent diseases . Rapid developments in modern medicine have conquered many diseases and disorders. Antibiotics and sulpha drugs cure many diseases . Epidemics are wiped out .Anaesthesia helps to forget pain. Scanning

,E.C.G,E.E.G,X-rays etc. help to diagnose diseases . Plastic surgery, transplantation of organs, test tube babies etc. have become common. Man has conquered everything except death. AGRICULTURE: Science has brought green revolution. New hybrid varieties are used. Tractors, pesticides, chemical fertilizers increase the yield. Poultry, dairy and sericulture make villagers rich. ENTERTAINMENT: World has become a global village because of science. Televisions entertain us and enrich our knowledge. We get edutainment from them. Computer is the most wonderful invention of science. It does all imaginable and unimaginable works. They store information, calculate, solve problems, run aero planes and rockets and manmade satellites. Internet is a boon to knowledge seekers. It provides information about everything: under the Sun; above the Sun too. SPACE: For hundreds of years man had dreamed of travelling in space. That dream came true in 1961: a Russian, Yuri Gagarin was the first man to travel in space. In 1969 Niel Armstrong became the first man to set foot on the moon. Hundreds of people have travelled in space but unmanned space flight is much more miraculous. Unmanned craft are equipped with instruments to send television pictures and scientific information back to earth. They travel through the solar system and beyond ,photographing planets. SCIENCE A BAD MASTER:

The atom bombs, hydrogen bombs and neutron bombs can destroy the human race. Nuclear power plant leakages endanger future generations. Chemical weapons and biological war fare are dangerous off shoots of science. They kill innocent people in no time. Fear of being killed for no reason lurks in our minds. CONCLUSION: Science is like a double edged sword. If we are not careful, it will coil back and hurt us. Let us use science for the good of humanity only
