Greeting readers. We are back with yet another exciting issue of Geechee One Magazine. In this issue I want to leave you with this thought, remember those who had your back from the beginning. Give respect when respect is do. If you are a go getter like me then you may have a 1000+ things going on and with those things you are always meeting new people. Its always a good thing to link up with new people, but dont step on the people you feel you may better than since your new friends came along. Sometimes giving respect may just be a shout out or going out of your way to let someone know that you appreciate all they have done for you. In the wonderful social media world just take five minutes and post a status. Felicia A. Rivers Publisher/CEO of GeeChee One Magazine STAFF

AND THE WINNER IS

Thanks again for picking up another issue of Geechee One Magazine. For those who missed the 2013 Geechee One Awards, which was presented by Stop the Violence South, you missed out on a lot of networking, laughs, and of course Unity. The purpose of the whole Geechee One outlet is to be a VOICE for you to use to showcase, market, and be heard. For those who knew me from when I first started in 2005, we was more geared towards females. I can say we are still reaching our females but are also a good tool for upcoming models and artists. I want people to understand that you have to be able to support and recognize others in order to gain respect and for others to support you. One of the things that we missed at the awards was our R.I.P. moments. Too many of us are dying way before our time due to shootings and straight up nonsense. In the years to come we will work more on motivating and reaching out to our community t0 make a difference. Please look forward to us traveling next year as well as networking with our market and giving you a voice and a light to shine. Felicia Rivers Editor-In-Chief of Geechee One Magazine

5 Ways to Market and Promote Yourself for FREE

#5 SOCIAL MEDIA Lets be honest there are a ton of different social media channels out there. My guidance is pick one or two that you think make sense for your business and master those first. You can spend hours venturing down the social media rabbit hole, but here are some general rules of thumb: The goal is to engage customers be a part of the discussion in your industry and it will help you gain an audience or followers. Dont be afraid to friend or follow reporters. Your ideas may spark stories for them. Ask for feedback from your followers. Again, engagement is the key you want them to like and share or retweet what you post. #4 YOUR WEBSITE With the constant changes in search algorithms, you want to make sure your content is fresh. One of the best ways to do this is to have a blog. I see a lot of websites that were built a year or two ago and havent been touched since. #3 COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Look for groups and associations that align with your priorities and beliefs. Volunteerism is a great way to network as well. #2 REACH OUT TO ALL MEDIA OUTLETS One of your audiences will invariably be the media. You cant pitch all media outlets the same way. TV has different needs from print and radio and vice versa. But before you pitch ask yourself: Is your product or service the first, best or brand new? Is it award-winning or trendsetting? Does it solve a problem? Does it provide a unique service? Is it visual (TV and online mostly, but even print is getting into video) If you dont have anything that fits into the above scattergories, then you probably dont have a news story. But you can still provide meaningful commentary by being an expert in your field. #1 CONSTANTLY BRAND YOUR NAME Chances are your company already has a logo and a name. It should be on everything correctly formatted. Your name and logo are the image that says who you are and what you do. Make sure it reflects your business. Examples include t-shirts, on your vehicle, business cards, etc.

After being in a off and on relationship for almost five years, I finally can say that I am now single and happy. No more wondering where my man is and who he is with. The first two years of my relationship was actually good. He used to hug me, kiss me, hold me, bring me flowers and candy, and show others signs of affections of love. One day I caught him cheating with one of my so-called home girls. He told me that was the first time and he would never ever cheat again. Three months later I caught him again with the same chick. Actually she went out her way to help me catch him with her. In some point of trying to befriend me again! What kind of real friend does that? I took him back. It took another five times of catching him with random chicks for me to be strong and let him go. It hard. I still think about him. How he used to kiss me. How he used to hold me. But no. I want a man that's mine and only mine. Let your voice be heard. Email us your editorials on life, relationships, and more to be featured in an upcoming issue to intheplug@gmail.com.

Can you tell us about your life growing up in the South? Growing up in the South was great. My mother was married to our step father for twelve years but ultimately she raised us. Though we did not have it easy, we had the necessities that we needed to survive. We grew up in the church and come from what I call "A Praying Family". Even if you did not pray for yourself you best believe that somebody in the family was. I had a very fun child hood. The women in our family were always dominant and head strong. My mother Janice and my grandmother Pearline have played major roles in my life. From teaching me how to raise my children to cooking and taking care of home. I come from a very supportive family. I remember as a child every time I had a new venture my mom would support it. I'd come home and decided that I wanted to do hair she bought me a sit under dryer and other hair supplies. Then I wanted to do nails, she'd get me nail supplies. Finally I wanted to become a nurse so she went and got me Nursing Exam books to study with. She always believed in me
GeeChee One Magazine

even when I sometimes did not believe in myself. My grandmother is 83 years old and she is one of the kindest souls I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. When my grandfather died we thought she would break but she didn't. She was there for me since I have been here on this earth. A lot of the things that I accomplished in life would have been difficult had he not had my back. My grandmother would feed a stranger and give you her last, such a humble and grateful being. I remember buying her some groceries and you would thought I had given this woman a million bucks. What they taught me in life is what makes me the woman I am today. If you could change anything in your life what would you change? I would change not going straight to college out of high school. Do you believe in love at first site? I don't believe in love at first sight or at least it has never happened to me.

What companies do you currently work at or run? Currently I have a site called AskChevey.com which I used to promote local artists as well as my Youtube Show "Table Talk" . You can check out episodes on my Youtube channel Askcheveydotcom. Currently I am concentrating on my script writing. I have written my first sitcom and working on a short film which I am hoping to one day get into the right hands. I am also pursuing my RN nursing degree.

What are 5 five things that keeps you motivated on a daily basis? My God, my family, my goals, myself and the naysayers.

Tell us about the family. My husband is Billy, he's an Electrician. We have three children together La'Chevy who is 8, Billy jr who is 5 and Jenasys who is 3. I also have two older children from a previous relationship, Jasmine who is 17, a high school senior this year and Jhakeem who is 14. They all are making either straight A's or A's and B's. Bj is Congratulations on just recently doing well in 5k and Jenasys attends an tying the knot. Can you tell us how online learning academy. My husband also you knew he was the one? has five children of his own from previous Well I met Billy when I was 18 and we relationships, three of whom are adults were on and off for 13 years. Initially I and Shy who is 15 and Tavia who is 14 who would get frustrated that he just loved me also alternate weekends at our home. So too much. I eventually grew up but I think we have a full house that is very drama it took us being apart for a while for us to free and the co parenting works just fine really appreciate what we had. There is amongst us all. nothing that he won't do for me and our children. We were engaged before but I What do you think would be your didn't feel that we were ready yet. I have major asset to the relationship? never been that female who just wants a I think I bring order, comfort and brains wedding or her day in white. The relation- amongst other things. I make sure that he ship had to be right and ultimately we did has what he needs from me as a wife. it when we were ready not when people Love, a listening ear, confidant, partner, thought we should do it. We our total lover and friend. He knows that the home opposites yet one in the same, if that front and kids are taken care of when he makes sense. He is very intelligent and goes on the road and that whenever he driven and I love him relentlessly, he's my soul mate. Being a business woman already with children before you got married did you feel that it was more of a struggle? It is more of a struggle because nothing in this world is just given to you. Being a woman definitely makes it ten times harder. People expect you to be nice and lady like but you really have to get your hands dirty sometimes. In the business world the love is so fake but the hate is so real. You have to stay focused and driven and believe me its a constant struggle when things are moving slow or not at all. There are plenty of times when the kids needed my attention and I just had to put things on hold, but I'm still in it to win it and taking things one step at a time.

When it comes to gospel music with a new feel the name Meaks is a name that is now starting to pop up more. If you havent heard any of the fire tracks that Meaks has already released such as, Crying out for Jesus, Rock it for Christ, and Youve Done Tried Everything, you would already know that Meaks is way different from any other artists you have ever heard. Since starting her music career at the young age of 12, Meaks eventually decided to go gospel. I wanted to be a better example for my children and for the youth all around the world.

not telling you what I have heard, Im telling you what I know and have experienced first hand. What makes you different? The fact that I am not ashamed of the Gospel and I do have a personal relationship with Christ.

As a gospel artist what do you want your listeners to take from your music once they hear it? I want my listeners to have more strength when it comes down to making decisions about not only the gospel but also about being a Christian. After listening to my music they Meaks is also a strong mother of three, and should want to make a change. Once you listen also has been blessed with being a successful to the music it also brings excitement. Thats hairstylist in Charleston, South Carolina. why I am not your traditional gospel artist. I Meaks wants to share her testimony and her want my listeners to understand that being a love for Jesus in the outlet of her music. I have Christian is not about being boring but its a testimony that would just blow your mind. I about getting your soul right for God. talk about the love I have for Jesus Christ. Im
GeeChee One Magazine www.geecheeone.com Page 12

What do you mean by traditional? Not your average. Like way back then. My music is more modern and up to date. It can be compared to secular music but with a different story line. People think that being a Christian is boring and limited but actually its exciting and it allows you to deal more with matters from the heart. I love the video for your hit song, Crying Out for Jesus. Can you tell us more about the song? I worked on the song for over 6 months. Its a song on how South Carolina is crying out because of all the senseless murders and violence going on right now. In the midst of me writing that song song I also came up with my next song, God Prevail. That song came from me doing a lot of spiritual warfare. What do you mean by spiritual warfare? It means not fighting physically but fighting spiritually. You have to learn how to fight back spiritually. I specialize in spiritual warfare.

Money.we all need Money. You have your churches that talk about Healing.again we all need Healing. Then you have your churches that talk about spiritual warfare. This is where the devil is attacking you and your family and you have to learn how to fight back spiritually. My church, The Harvest Center, teaches me about the spirit under the Apostle Rufus Smalls. Getting back to the music, when can we expect your album to drop? The release date is set for January 15, 2014 for my project titled The Nume. Explain the title The Nume. The NuMe means that God is creating something new in me everyday. He is giving me more wisdom, more knowledge, and more guidance. Is there anything else you would like the readers to know? Age does not matter with gospel. Whether you are 8 or 88, you still have the ability to win souls for advancing the kingdom.

A lot of us would learn more about that in @meaksamillion church right? Different churches in SC focuses on different things. You have your churches that talk about

Our licensing is through a partnership with another brand, Black Ink Management & Music Group which collectively we facilitate and promote our artists projects of all genres nation wide. We pride ourselves on working with artists of all genres from Inspirational, R&B, Hip Hop, Pop, NeoSoul, Rock, Country, etc. I have been living and working in Charlotte, NC (ranked market #24) in radio for 9 years under both 96.1 The Beat-WBIT (Clear Channel Radio Charlotte) & currently at Power 98fm-WPEG (CBS Radio Charlotte). Also known as the SouthEast MouthPiece, I consider myself and have been referred to as a "jack of all trades" and I am a proud representative & stand up for the Carolina entertainment & music scene. GO: CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR DJ MIXER IN CHARLOTTE YOU HAVE EACH MONTH FOR ARTISTS? JP: The Vinyl Union Mixer was a vision of mine to unite the market. The immediate purpose of this event is to unify the Carolina DJs in order to build awareness, educate, network, build individual worth, & create a platform to introduce artists that could potentially represent the Carolina markets, our region, and eventually the Nation as a whole. Our ultimate goal is to connect our music scene with that of other major cities as well as highlight the major talents we have here. GO: ARE THERE ANY ARTISTS THAT YOU'RE CURRENTLY WORKING WITH THAT WE WOULD NEED TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR?? JP: Yes we are currently managing an artist by the name of Dee Dray & his traveling band, the Eclectic Vybez Band. Dee Dray is a talented young lyricist whom is originally from Buffalo, NY but has been educated and groomed by the Carolinas as he's been living here for many years now. As a graduate of local HBCU Johnson C. Smith University, he has adopted allot of the Carolina style, lingo, & lifestyle, mixed with his initial upbringing from his northern roots which gives him the best of both worlds. He is a very hard worker and takes his artistry very seriously. He stands out because of his fresh sound, overall delivery, & his superstar image. We are in the process of preparing him for his first major music release under Bungalo/ Universal Music Group Distribution. We are also finalizing a motivational speaking tour for him through our PR provider as he currently already does many community events and forums where he travels to different schools and recreation centers talking to and motivating kids. You can facebook search Dee Dray, Twitter: @Whoookares, or check him out at www.reverbnation.com/deedray. We are also developing a few other artists of multiple genres that will debut during the 2014 year so be on the lookout! GO: WHATS J PRAG ADVICE HE WOULD GIVE TO A STRUGGLING ARTIST THATS FRUSTRATED ON MAKING IT IN TODAYS MUSIC INDUSTRY? JP: The advice I have for those interested in growing with in this industry that they stay consistent in your work ethics, continue to financially invest in yourself until you can find outside investors or sponsors, be open to constructive criticism, and stay true to your sound & image if you believe in what you're offering as an artist. Aspiring artists should treat their artistry as a full time job. If you're treating your music as a part time business then it will continue to be part time. If you treat it as a full time, it can become full time. Remember, you have

to go hard to create a following and a buzz as an artist because labels and executives are looking at this as a numbers game, meaning based on how many true followers or supporters you have gained so they can add that up to estimate how much money they can make off of your talents and niche. Look at it like this, labels & investors look to see how they can get compensated for their upfront investments into talents versus worrying about how musically talented an artist is. Sad to say but it's not about how talented one is as much as it once used to be, it's more about numbers and what budgets you have at your disposal. We have all heard the cliche "It takes money to make money", well this is a true statement in this case. Also, keep in mind that the other half of having budgets is your relationships within this Industry, so if you have no network this may not be the game for you. And most of all, remember that this is still a business based Industry so be sure to develop your professionalism and understand that no one has to "give" you anything in this game, it must be earned! GO: HOW CAN SOMEONE CONTACT YOU IF THEY'RE INTERESTED IN PERFORMING AT YOUR DJ MIXER OR ANY SERVICES THAT YOUR COMPANY OFFER?? They can facebook search: Tiger Eye Management Group or my personal page Josh "J Pragmatic" Davis or follow us at @TigerEyeMGMT or my personal @jpragmatic. simple. Men dont spend too much time looking for flaws that could potentially eliminate you. Rather we focus on those things that make you more eligible. Women have often wondered how can a man have sex with a women who may not be the most attractive, a women who may not have any standout physical features, a women who most would consider unattractive. Well it is because she has been screen and approved for her potential rather then screen and eliminated which is women do. WOMEN When a women meets a man she places him into one of 4 scattergories. Through her wisdom and experience she will screen you and place you into one of these scattergories. The stark difference here is that women do not keep it simple. Big Brother Friend Jump-Off Significant Other Lets break down each category. BIG BROTHER This is, without a shadow of a doubt, hands down, no denying, the absolute worst category to be placed in if you are attracted to this women. If a man places a women into that illustrious 98 percentile f*ckable range and she places him into that cold, dark and lonely category called Big Brother, the man is screwed from the gates. When she places you in this category she is saying that you are absolutely NOT someone she would consider having sex with. There is something so significant, so plain and obvious about you that in no way, under any circumstances would she want to have sex with you. As a Big Brother, she will trust you with secrets, which you are expected to hold. She will do odd things such as change in front of you and tell you about sexual exploits from past expeirences. She will allow you to flirt and make comments but
