Grammar Wizards (5 points each)- Due 8-29, 9-5, 9-12, & 9-19 Students actively participate in grammar lessons daily and receive a weekly participation grade. 5 Senses Hobbit (10 points)- Due 9-5 Students listened to The Hobbit read aloud by instructors and practiced comprehension by imagining themselves in the setting of the story. They wrote sentences with the five senses: I smell, I taste, I feel, I hear, I see SciLearn Participation (40 points /week)- Due 10-3, 10-10, 10-17, 10-24 Every week, students are required to complete thirty minutes of educational games a day on the SciLearn computer program. The software is designed to adapt to their learning needs and adjust to their pace of learning to improve their literacy and brain function. Every day students are rewarded and congratulated for completing this task. Look Out Practice Packet (100 points) - Due 10-24 Students practiced identifying extra letters, consonant combinations and blends, and other spelling exercises to improve their writing and reading abilities. They worked through a packet of exercises independently and at their own pace over several weeks.

QUARTER 2
SciLearn Participation (40 points /week)- Due 10-31, 11-7 Every week, students are required to complete thirty minutes of educational games a day on the SciLearn computer program. The software is designed to adapt to their learning needs and adjust to their pace of learning to improve their literacy and brain function. Every day students are rewarded and congratulated for completing this task. Oaks Practice Test (part of weekly participation grade- Due 10-31) Students were given the option to take a practice OAKS test to determine their eligibility to exit the class. Passing the test would prove their readiness to complete and pass a grade level state assessment given in the spring. The test took up 1-3 days otherwise devoted to SciLearn time depending on student pace. SciLearn Participation (20 points /week)- 11-14 (10 points per day on a short week) Every week, students are required to complete thirty minutes of educational games a day on the SciLearn computer program. The software is designed to adapt to their learning needs and adjust to

their pace of learning to improve their literacy and brain function. Every day students are rewarded and congratulated for completing this task. Paired Readings (10 points each) - Due 11-7, 11-11. & 11-13 This literacy technique improves students fluency in reading out loud. Students read together in small groups of two or three, helping each other with words they might otherwise struggle with pronouncing. After reading, students demonstrate comprehension of their reading by listing in complete sentences the plot of their reading segment for the day. U Pick Book Choice & Reading Response 11-18, 11-19. 11-20, & 11-21 Students picked a book of their choice from the classroom library, identifying the genre and what interested them about the book. The rest of the week, they read five pages from the book and answered reading comprehension questions based on the reading. Working with the teacher, students have their grammar checked, improving their writing as well. SciLearn Participation 11-18, 11-19. 11-20, & 11-21 Every week, students are required to complete thirty minutes of educational games a day on the SciLearn computer program. The software is designed to adapt to their learning needs and adjust to their pace of learning to improve their literacy and brain function. Every day students are rewarded and congratulated for completing this task. U Pick Reading Response 11-25, 11-26 Students picked a book of their choice from the classroom library, identifying the genre and what interested them about the book. The rest of the week, they read five pages from the book and answered reading comprehension questions based on the reading. Working with the teacher, students have their grammar checked, improving their writing as well. SciLearn Participation 11-25, 11-26 Every week, students are required to complete thirty minutes of educational games a day on the SciLearn computer program. The software is designed to adapt to their learning needs and adjust to their pace of learning to improve their literacy and brain function. Every day students are rewarded and congratulated for completing this task. U Pick Summaries 12-2, 12-3, 12-4, 12-5 Students continued to read a book of their choice after SciLearn, completing six pages and now summarizing each page with a complete sentence. The student then works on their grammar and writing skills with this set of writing one on one with the teacher, improving both reading comprehension and writing skills. SciLearn Participation 12-2, 12-3, 12-4, 12-5

U Pick Character Responses 12-10, 12-11, 12-12 For a week, students answered questions about character, plot, and inference (what do you think will happen next?) after reading from their chosen book. Students get full credit when they have gone over and improved their grammar with an instructor. SciLearn Participation 12-16, 12-17, 12-18, 12-19 Every week, students are required to complete thirty minutes of educational games a day on the SciLearn computer program. The software is designed to adapt to their learning needs and adjust to their pace of learning to improve their literacy and brain function. Every day students are rewarded and congratulated for completing this task. U Pick Summaries 12-16, 12-17, 12-18, 12-19 Students continued to read a book of their choice after SciLearn, completing six pages and now summarizing each page with a complete sentence. The student then works on their grammar and writing skills with this set of writing one on one with the teacher, improving both reading comprehension and writing skills.
