The numbers used in Algebra are called Real Numbers and can be
pictured on a horizontal line called the Real Number Line.
The point labeled 0 is called the Origin

The scale marks are equally spaced and represent integers.

An integer is either negative, positive, or zero.

The three dots on each side of the list above indicate that the list continues
in both directions without end. For instance, the integer immediately to the
left of -3 is -4, read as negative four. Remember Left is Less.

The real number line has points that represent integers, fractions, and
decimals. The point that corresponds to a number is called the
graph of the number and drawing the point is called graphing the number
or plotting the point.

EXAMPLE 1: Graphing Real Numbers

Graph the points 1/2 and -2.3 on the number line.
