*We may also use unless instead of if. 1. Zero conditional - Structure: If + subject + present simple, subject + present simple - Usage: expresses the result or the consequence of a real condition If you heat ice, it melts. If I am late for work, my boss gets angry. 2. First conditional - Structure: If + subject + present simple, subject + will / wont +base verb - Usage: expresses the result of a possible future condition If it rains, I will stay at home. If he sees Mary, he will invite her. 3. Second conditional - Structure: If + subject + past simple, subject + would / wouldnt +base verb - Usage: expresses an unreal possibility, a dream If I won the lottery, I would buy a car. If it snowed in July, we would be surprised.
