Connections (prior learning/prior knowledge): Pre-reading strategies: defining tier 2 vocab words before reading the text. Reading strategies: asking questions as you read, rereading for comprehension, looking for main ideas and supporting ideas; Post reading strategies: answering questions that ask students to recall explicit ideas and infer implicit ideas, summarizing. Writing strategies: using examples and quotes to support ideas Resources/Materials Because of Winn-Dixie Greater Than Angels

TUESDAY Learning TargetStudents will analyze main ideas of Chapter Nine, both explicit and inferred, and support ideas with examples from the text. They will show their understanding of these ideas in class discussions and by answering questions about each chapter. They will show their ability to cite evidence by including examples and quotes from the text in some of their answers WEDNESDAY Learning Target- Students will demonstrate understanding of vocab by writing definitions from Time for Kids in their own words. Students will identify main ideas, supporting ideas by writing them down THURSDAY Learning TargetStudents will analyze main ideas of Chapter Ten, both explicit and inferred, and support ideas with examples from the text. Students will analyze the meaning of a symbol that is described in the chapter. They will show their understanding of these ideas in class discussions and by answering questions about each chapter. They will show their ability to cite evidence by including examples and quotes from the text in some of their answers. FRIDAY Learning TargetStudents demonstrate an understanding of main ideas in Chapter Eleven by writing a personal narrative that illustrates a main idea and by creating a storyboard that illustrates the main scenes.
