13, 2014 Freedom Fish Fry brings the community together, honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
On Monday, Jan. 20, the African American Historical and Cultural Museum (AAHCM) will host a fish fry in celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day beginning promptly at 11AM. The third Monday of January marks a day to celebrate the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as he took a stand in front of the world to fight for freedom. The Valley celebrates Dr. Kings vision for equality and acceptance of each other by acknowledging his holiday through a chain of events. Community organizers of the Valley include the AAHCM. The museum was founded by retired Fresno City police officer, Sergeant Jack Kelley and his wife Rosa Kelley. It is the only non-profit educational facility of its kind. The museum houses hundreds of historical photographs, artifacts and memorabilia, including documentation of Dr. Kings visit to Fresno. Among the series of events to honor Dr. King through the Valley, the museum will host the Freedom Fish Fry proceeding the Martin Luther King, Jr. March in Downtown Fresno. The community is invited to stop by the museum to enjoy appetizing fish fry platters, network with prominent community leaders and examine the MLK Mini-Gallery featuring various community artists.
