On physical exam there is swelling from excess fluid (dropsy), thirst, excessive sweating, dry and hot skin, and last stages of illness. Acetic acid poisoning can result from injuries, surgery, infections, or use of certain medicines and inhalants. Opium, belladonna, and carbolic acid can help treat acetic acid toxicity and related bleeding and fluid imbalance issues.
