Minutes from Health and Wealth Council Meeting on September 27, 2013

Present: - Cathy Crum (Dept of Social Services), Kristen Luciano (Skills of Central PA), Debbie Garritano (citizen), Paulette Cornet (City of Altoona/Fair Housing Program), Adana Burke-Hooten (VA Medical Center), Suzanne Snyder (Bl Co Health Ctr), Robin Beck (United Way of Blair Co), Denise Adams (FRC), Maria Brandt (The Arc of Blair County), Cheryl Nolan (Blair Senior Services), Dawn McMaster (Altoona Housing Authority), Helen Terza (Southern Alleghenies Service Mgmt), Steve Karns (Southern Alleghenies Service Mgmt), Mike Hofer (Central Blair Rec Commission), Sherri Hack (Blindness and Visual Services), Robin Walters (HNA Nurse Family Partnership), Teresa Salome (HNA Nurse Family Partnership), Jodi Cessna (Central PA Community Foundation), Sharon McDonald (Penn State Extension), Tracy Kelley (HNA WIC), Olivia Yanits (Blair Drug & Alcohol Partnerships), Hannah Weaver (Blair Drug & Alcohol Partnerships), Terri Grove (CONTACT Altoona), Jessica Maxon (Mt Aloysius College), Paula Craw (St. Francis University), Dee Martin-Spallone (AASD Community Ed/Family Lit), Donna Gority (WISE Women of Blair Co), Jean Johnstone (Catholic Charities), Scott Moyer (Discovery House), Mahlon Fiscel (retired citizen), and Michelle Zitsch (CCIS of Blair County) Welcome and Call to Order Introductions: -Mahlon welcomed the group and everyone went around and introduced themselves. Presentation Loren Horton from Home Nursing Agency (HNA) - Loren went over the various services and programs that HNA offers in 18 counties and now in Ohio. -The programs include Nurse Family Partnership, WIC, Healing Patch, Adult Day Care, Home Health Services, and Hospice. Business Meeting Review/Approval of Minutes: -The group reviewed the minutes. Donna made motion to approve and Kristen seconded it.

Correspondence
-Michelle reported that we didnt received any correspondence. Review of Treasurers Report/Update: - Kristen reported that the beginning balance as of 07/01/13 for Health and Welfare Council was $4,911.58 and SHIP was $138.82 with a total balance of 1

$5050.40. The ending balance as of 08/31/13 was the same as the beginning balance due to inactivity. -Kristen reported that 2 memberships were received at todays meeting. -Donna made motion to accept the treasurers report and Dee seconded it. -Kristen reported that she gave the financial records to Robin today for the audit committee to review. Committee Reports:

Executive
- Mahlon reported that the executive committee voted to keep the dues the same. -Mahlon reported that the executive committee recommended that $500 be given to the Bridges Network Group for support of poverty simulation presentation in Blair County. The group discussed it and Jeanne Johnstone made a motion for $500 to go to support the Poverty Simulation Training by Bridges Network and Dee seconded it. Kristen Luciano will be the designee from Health and Welfare to attend the meetings. -The audit committee will be developed into 3 classes with 2 year terms with 1 rotating on 1 rotating off. The by-laws will need to be updated to reflect this change.

Marketing
-Jessica reported that she did a press release for todays meeting.

Membership
No report was given. The spreadsheet was passed around for updates.

Website
-Dee reported that she has updated all of the membership documents, she put a link to 211, and she has agency activities listed. Grant Report and Announcement: -The only changes to the grant application and letter were the address and phone/fax changes for the Department of Social Services. The deadline for grant applications is November 1st. The grant encourages collaborate and it can be for an ongoing program, but can only apply every other year. -A grant report was received from Angel Feet Ministries. Dee reported that they were able to purchase 52 pairs of shoes from the grant money. Sharon suggested that Dees report be placed on the H&W Council website. Updates:

Blair County Human Service Office


Cathy reported there is no longer a help directory. On their website www.dss.blairco.org, you will find a link to 211. 2

United Way
-Robin reported that they are in campaign mode, they have a Women Leadership committee, Denise Adams is the Interim Family Resource Center Director, Toasty Toddler program, and Financial Literacy program.

Health Improvement Partnership Program (HIPP)


-The next meeting of the Healthy Blair County Coalition will be held on Wednesday, October 9th at 1:15 PM at The ARC of Blair County. -The State is changing the group from SHIP to HIPP and some of the criteria. Groups will now be considered partners, wont need to be 501(c)3, receive monthly newsletters, and offer webinars. -The group discussed Health and Welfare Council becoming a partner as well as the Healthy Blair County Coalition so that we can get the emails directly. Donna made the motion for Health and Welfare Council to apply to become a partner and Maria seconded it. -The by-laws will need to be looked at due to this change.

Agencies Updates
-Agencies gave quick update of happenings. Other Business: -Maria recommended that we look at rotating our agenda items due to the fact that some people have to leave the meeting early and always miss the same topics at each meeting. Adjournment: -Mahlon adjourned the meeting. -The next meeting will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 8:00 AM at The Arc of Blair County .
