Bobotie

No self respecting South African housewife does not own (and treasure!) a favourite bobotie recipe. 2 tablespoons vegetable oil 2 onions, peeled and sliced 2 1/ pounds good !ualit" lean ground beef 1 thic#ish slice of white bread 1 cup $il# 1 tablespoon $ediu$ curr" powder (or hot for the hale and brave) 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar 2 teaspoons salt freshl" grated pepper (about a half teaspoon) %/ teaspoon tur$eric 1 1/2 tablespoons $alt vinegar 1/2 cup seedless raisins 2 tablespoons strong chutne" 2 ba" leaves (or fresh le$on leaves if available) 2 $ediu$ eggs

METHOD &reheat oven to %'()*. +eat oil in $ediu$ saut, pan. Stir in onions. -oo# over $ediu$ heat until transparent. Add ground beef. -oo# until lightl" browned and cru$bl".
